Brutal reason radio star Mitch Churi was sacked by KIIS FM after eight years
As a lifestyle expert with decades of experience in the radio industry, I must say that the news of Mitch Churi‘s departure from KIIS FM has left me both saddened and intrigued. It’s always tough to see a beloved figure like Mitch leave the airwaves, but as someone who’s been through my fair share of shake-ups in this business, I understand that it’s often a matter of financial priorities and strategic decision-making.
An “inside source” at the radio station has disclosed the genuine explanation behind Mitch Churi’s dismissal from KIIS FM.
Last week, Mitch found himself getting choked up when he informed his audience that he had received notice to leave his position, a role he’s held for eight years.
On his Game Changers Radio: Melbourne Radio Wars podcast, former radio executive Craig Bruce suggested that ARN may have dismissed Churi because of the 10-year, $200 million contract signed by Kyle Sandilands and Jackie O Henderson.
‘You can understand it purely from a financial perspective,’ he said.
‘If Mitch earns $100,000 per year, ARN might think, “We already have a breakfast show for the next 10 years on the KIIS network and a drive show. So, why would we invest in a night talent if it won’t bring us any return?”‘
Bruce confessed: “Had I been in that room, I would have supported the decision to let Churi go. I find it hard to rationalize his wage given our current situation, as we’re looking at a network that may only have one or two shows.
On Wednesday afternoon, I found myself emotionally shattered while broadcasting, as I shared with my audience that I had been let go from my network.
Since 2019, the radio host, who shares the microphone with Laura Byrne and Brittany Hockley on The Pick Up drive time show, choked up when disclosing some difficult personal news to his fellow presenters.
Mitch said, “Last week, I received word from those in charge that my position here won’t be continuing beyond 2025.
Mitch then revealed he was blindsided by the decision and he wished it had not come to this.
To put it simply, I didn’t make the choice or have the final say about staying on the show with you both. truthfully, I deeply desired to continue being a part of the show and working alongside KIIS.
Laura Byrne, aged 38, joined in to express that she and Brittany are wholeheartedly backing Mitch and sending their well-wishes for his future endeavors.
Laura expressed, “This isn’t how we planned the performance. Unfortunately, this choice wasn’t within our grasp. Regrettably, Britt and I must proceed with the show without your presence, and we are deeply saddened by it.
‘You are not only our co-host, but also one of our best friends,’ Brittany chipped in.
Luckily, it appears that Mitch will get a chance to bid farewell to his audience gracefully, since he’ll continue with his broadcast till the end of this year.
‘We’ll miss you, Mitch,’ wrote fellow radio stars Amanda Keller and Brendan ‘Jonesy’ Jones.
Apologies for the pain, my dear friend. I know it’s tough, but remember, a new chapter is just around the corner. One door shutting means another opening is imminent in your future. Kylie Gilmour and Tristan MacManus echoed their sympathy with, ‘I’m sorry to hear that.’
On a Wednesday, Laura and Brittany could be seen standing by Mitch outside the KIIS FM studios in North Sydney, offering support following the surprising announcement.
As the radio hosts hugged Mitch goodbye, looking visibly moved, it was just moments after the unexpected announcement that he was being let go from the studio.
