Brutal REAL reason Amy Schumer and Chris Fischer have split: Friends reveal devastating moment she realized it was over… and tell of her big next move after divorce

After weeks of speculation, Amy Schumer has accepted that her marriage is over.

Late Friday night, comedian Amy Schumer, 44, announced on Instagram that she and her husband, chef Chris Fischer, 45, are divorcing after seven years of marriage. They described the decision as a difficult one, but said they’ve decided to separate.

The news was released almost a month after the Daily Mail first reported that the actress from Trainwreck was having problems in her relationship.

Amy Schumer, mother to a six-year-old son named Gene, is going through a major life change. She’s been public about losing 50 pounds with the aid of weight-loss medication, and now a source says she’s ending her marriage to focus on her career.

According to a source who spoke with the Daily Mail, Amy Schumer was experiencing a lot of career success when ‘Trainwreck’ was released in 2015, and she turned down many acting opportunities.

After becoming pregnant, she took on some acting roles, but didn’t pursue them as intensely as she wanted. Now, a decade after the success of ‘Trainwreck’ launched her career, she’s hoping to regain that momentum and achieve similar success with another major film.

According to the source, she prioritized her career and motherhood, which unfortunately led to her marriage falling apart. She acknowledges this was a conscious choice and understands you can’t always have everything you want. Now, she’s working through the aftermath and taking things one day at a time.

The Daily Mail has contacted Schumer’s representative for comment but has not yet heard back.

Amy Schumer addressed rumors about her weight loss in a playfully worded Instagram post announcing her separation, jokingly dismissing the idea that it was a factor in the split. The post, made late at night, contained several typos.

She also stressed that the split wasn’t due to Fischer being a successful and attractive chef.

According to a source at the Daily Mail, Amy is handling the impending divorce with a mix of emotions. While she’s making light of the situation publicly, the split has been a long time in the making, and she feels both relieved and heartbroken.

She’s genuinely excited to co-parent Gene, but she’s also prioritizing getting her personal life and career on track for a big year in 2026.

She’s gotten herself into amazing shape and is eager to do more comedy. She’s open to all sorts of projects – stand-up specials, touring, writing, and appearing in more films and TV shows, including the kinds of roles people would naturally expect from her.

Amy Schumer shared a post on Instagram about a month after the Daily Mail reported trouble in her marriage, with a source close to her saying she was ready to end it.

Schumer surprised many people when she cleared all photos from her Instagram, posting only one picture of herself highlighting her weight loss and the fact she wasn’t wearing her wedding ring – something she had been photographed without before.

Her close friend told the Daily Mail that Schumer was ‘100 percent getting divorced.’

People noticed she had lost weight and seemed to be moving on. Chris was frequently away from home, and they had already put two properties – one in Brooklyn and another in New Orleans – up for sale.

Another source noted that Schumer was no longer bringing up her spouse in conversation.

You know, I’ve been hearing things about Amy and Chris. It seems like they’ve really drifted apart lately. From what I understand, he’s rarely around, and she hasn’t brought him as her date to any major events for quite a while now. It’s a classic sign things aren’t as strong as they used to be, sadly.

According to a source, Fischer faced challenges due to his autism, a condition Senator Schumer publicly disclosed he also has in 2019.

It just kills me that he doesn’t even get her humor! Seriously, making people laugh is, like, her whole thing, it’s so important to her, and he just…doesn’t appreciate it. It’s honestly heartbreaking to watch.

‘Also, there is that classic cliche: when a woman loses weight, her personality changes.

Since losing weight, Amy seems happier and more relaxed. It’s like a weight has been lifted from her, and she’s now eager to enjoy life to the fullest.

Another source revealed that Amy and Chris have fallen into a pattern over the past few years, prioritizing their child over their romantic connection. While Chris’s directness, stemming from his autism, is sometimes helpful for Amy – she’s even made jokes about it in her comedy shows – it’s also occasionally caused friction in their relationship.

In 2018, Emily Schumer and Chris Fischer got married in Malibu with about 80 guests, including their friend Jennifer Lawrence.

Before getting married, the couple had a prenuptial agreement, something Schumer playfully referenced when celebrating their seventh anniversary in February.

Amy Schumer shared a sweet message on Instagram, posting a wedding photo and revealing that she and her husband signed a prenuptial agreement seven years ago – which thankfully they’ve never needed! She also expressed her love for him. Schumer is reported to have a net worth of $45 million.

Fischer has often joined Schumer at public events over the past year, but their last confirmed public appearance together seems to have been in June 2025 at the premiere of ‘Room To Move’.

Talk about a possible breakup between them started earlier this year when Schumer listed two of their homes for sale.

Senator Schumer is selling her Brooklyn house for $12.75 million, after initially listing it for $14 million. She bought the property – well-known for being featured in the movie Moonstruck – in 2022.

The comedian is also selling the New Orleans home she bought with Fischer in 2021.

Schumer has undergone a dramatic transformation since losing weight.

She’s been honest about having liposuction and experimenting with popular weight loss drugs like Ozempic, Wegovy, and Mounjaro.

While neither Ozempic and Wegovy sat well with her, Mounjaro stuck.

She shared with her Instagram followers that she’s been feeling great – her hair is thicker, her skin is clearer, and she has more energy. She also hinted at a more active sex life, saying she’s feeling more interested in intimacy.

People have definitely noticed her weight loss – a recent photo from her trip to Las Vegas, showing off her toned legs, received a lot of positive attention.

‘Loving the love. My legs thank you!’ she told followers.

Shortly after their wedding, Fischer, who works as both a chef and a farmer, received a diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder.

Shortly after getting married, Fischer was officially diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder. She’s been open with fans about how this has affected her relationship, and has even said it helped her realize she loved her husband.

This condition is a developmental disorder that lasts throughout a person’s life and affects their ability to understand social signals and communicate effectively.

In her 2019 Netflix special, Growing, she explained that she always recognized differences in how her husband’s mind worked compared to her own. He was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, previously known as Asperger’s, meaning he falls somewhere on the autism spectrum.

After he received his diagnosis, I realized how perfectly it explained everything I adored about him. All the traits that define who he is – the ones that led me to fall deeply in love – were also the characteristics that indicated he was on the spectrum.
