Bruce Willis’ Wife Shares Caregiver Tips Amid His Dementia Battle

In simpler terms, Emma Heming Willis, who is married to Bruce Willis, recently posted a video offering advice on how people can support and assist caregivers they know.

On Instagram this past Thursday, the woman who wed the 69-year-old actor back in 2009, posted a video to mark National Caregivers Day. This special day is observed annually on the following Friday.

She offered some tips on appearing supportive as a caregiver and ways to effectively assist in various scenarios, a week following her Valentine’s Day message.

Since his retirement from acting in 2022, following a diagnosis of aphasia, she has been caring for her husband. In 2023, he was subsequently diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia.

She titled her post, ‘Celebrating National Caregivers Day! Instead of asking, “Let me know if you need anything,” try offering help with a statement like, “Here’s how I can assist you.” This makes your support more tangible, actionable, and alleviates the pressure on the caregiver to decide.’

Instead of being vague, provide genuine assistance. Bring over a meal, complete a task for them, or surprise them with their preferred coffee. Remove any doubts they might have about what help is needed, she suggested.

In her post that garnered almost 3K likes, she emphasized that caring for someone can be challenging, yet showing support doesn’t always need to be complex. Even a simple, meaningful gesture can have a tremendous impact.

She started off by saying, “I wanted to address this topic since I understand that many of you have caregivers in your lives and are curious about the most effective ways to offer them support.

Instead of offering general help with ‘If there’s anything I can do, please let me know,’ consider suggesting specific actions that could benefit them,” she suggested.

Emma noted that it’s quite challenging for the caregiver to establish the ‘criteria’ and ‘limits’ when making a request.

She noted that they prefer not to seem as if they’re imposing, so you should reassure them about your availability to help them.

As a devoted admirer, I could gush endlessly about the heartwarming gestures Emma has shared, such as “taking care of your grocery needs for an entire week” or “offering to stay by your side for a couple of hours, giving you the freedom to pursue whatever brings joy to your heart.

Here are some additional examples she provided:

1. Collecting your children from school and then taking them out for a meal.
2. Going to have your vehicle cleaned at the car wash.
3. Arranging for your car to be serviced.

She suggested considering how you might offer assistance and support to a caregiver who is important to you, whether it’s for National Caregiver’s Day or any other day, as her final thought.

Last week, Emma shared a heartwarming Valentine’s Day post with a throwback snap of her and Bruce.

The affectionate feelings expressed by the retired actor, now fighting against frontotemporal dementia, were posted together with an old photo that seemed to capture the duo’s hearty laughter.

In the picture, Heming Willis is noticed getting nearer to the former Moonlighting actor’s shoulder and chest, all while erupting in laughter, given that he sports a wide grin on his face.

In a touching gesture, this dedicated spouse and parent of two shared an antique black-and-white snapshot on her Instagram Stories, accompanied by a heartfelt caption reading: ‘Us.’

She posted a brief clip from The Notorious B.I.G’s track “The Limit (Instrumental)” along with a photo where Willis planted a sweet kiss on her cheek, as they were having fun together at a restaurant.
