Bruce Willis‘ wife shared that at times, his authentic personality may emerge during his struggle against frontotemporal dementia.
The Die Hard star, 70, was diagnosed with the degenerative brain condition in 2023.
In an upcoming special on ABC, airing Tuesday evening, titled Emma & Bruce Willis: The Unexpected Journey, Emma Heming Willis, aged 47, shared that ‘we experience moments’ with Diane Sawyer.
His laughter is unmistakable, isn’t it?” she grinned. “It’s so full-bodied that at times, when he flashes a twinkle in his eye or a smirk, I find myself feeling as if I’m carried away.
Taking a brief pause, her eyes welled up, and she softly remarked, “It’s tough to witness such fleeting instances vanish so swiftly, that’s challenging.

On Tuesday, during a preview on Good Morning America, Sawyer, aged 70, disclosed the news that approximately 50,000 individuals in the United States are currently struggling with a challenging-to-diagnose health condition.
After multiple consultations with various physicians, it was eventually discovered that the once sociable and active husband and father in the Willis family had been distancing himself from his loved ones.
She remarked that it was unsettling and frightening to see him acting in stark contrast to his usual warm and affectionate self, appearing distant and cold instead.
Emma shares daughters Mabel, 13, and Evelyn, 11 with the Moonlighting star.
Bruce and his former wife, Demi Moore, are blessed with three daughters – Rumer (age 37), Scout (34), and Tallulah (31).
Upon receiving the confirmation of her FTD diagnosis through the brain scan, Emma expressed her intense anxiety by saying, “I felt utterly terrified,” as it was the first time she had ever heard a term that was difficult to understand.
‘I remember hearing it and just not hearing anything else. It was like I was freefalling.’

When inquired about whether the actor from Pulp Fiction grasped the situation, Emma replied, ‘I believe Bruce didn’t quite see the link.’
In a change, the previous model is now dedicated full-time as a caregiver for her husband. She has penned down a book detailing her personal journey through this experience.
The Unexpected Journey will be released on September 9.
She mentioned about her husband’s health, saying that he, Bruce, remains quite mobile. However, it’s unfortunate that he’s experiencing issues with his brain. But overall, he’s in good health.
As The Sixth Sense star looses his ability to speak, Emma said the family has ‘learned to adapt.’
As his devoted admirer, I’ve discovered a unique method to connect with him, one that sets us apart from others. Yet, even as I savor this extraordinary bond, I am profoundly grateful. My heart swells with gratitude every day, knowing my beloved partner continues to be an integral part of our lives.
