Bruce Willis’ wife Emma celebrates birthday with his ex Demi Moore and their family amid actor’s dementia battle

This week, Emma Heming, the wife of Bruce Willis, quietly celebrated her 47th birthday with her expanded family.

In 2009, the entrepreneur (who is now married to the Die Hard actor) took to Instagram on Thursday to post pictures from their memorable day, with her two kids, along with Demi Moore and Rumer Willis by her side.

In the year 2023, Willis was diagnosed with Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD). Since then, he has been sharing his life with Heming’s daughters, Mabel who is 13 and Evelyn who is 11 years old.

In the past, Moore was married to Bruce from 1987 until their divorce was completed in 2000. Together they have three daughters – Rumer (aged 36), Scout (33), and Tallulah (31).

In the photo that Emma recently posted in her collection, she showed a joyful grin at a birthday celebration dinner.

In the midst of her stood her two daughters, along with a Golden Globe awardee. Rumer’s daughter, Louetta, was among those who partook in the joyous celebrations. However, Bruce, as well as Scout and Tallulah, were conspicuously missing from this social gathering.

On her birthday, Emma, now one year older (celebrated on June 18), made a wish and blew out a candle on a sweet piece of cake while the gathering enjoyed time outside at a restaurant.

The brief video shared in the post captures Louetta, one of Rumer’s two siblings from her relationship with Derek Richard Thomas, extending a heartfelt birthday greeting to Heming.

To wrap it up, the mother of two posted another video on social media, capturing their delightful moment spent cycling together outdoors.

In the title, she wrote to her almost 1 million fans: “For the last few weeks, I’ve been enveloped in an abundance of love for my birthday.

‘Coming from Bruce, our beloved daughter’s mother, my family member, and cherished friend, their affection and backing sustain me in a manner that often transcends the power of spoken or written words.’

Emma ended by expressing her thanks to all who sent birthday greetings. She felt the warmth of your ongoing kindness deeply and is truly appreciative. Her day was simply wonderful.

2022 saw Bruce taking a break from acting after being diagnosed with aphasia. The following year, it came to light that he had been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia.

In simple terms, everyone in the combined household is standing united to help and encourage Willis during his long-term health struggle, as well as supporting one another.

In March, they marked the 70th birthday of a former actor by posting cherished photos on social media.

Last year, during an interview with Town & Country Magazine, Emma shared that Demi offers her support, along with Demi’s three daughters.

The family appreciates how I care for him; they truly back me up. Whenever I feel the urge to express my emotions, be it weeping, venting or getting angry – as these feelings may arise and it’s normal to experience them – they are consistently available to lend an ear.

Heming expressed his gratitude by saying, “I’m truly grateful for our mixed family. They’re incredibly supportive, full of love, and always ready to help – not everyone has that kind of support system.

She also expressed at the time that she doesn’t ‘shield’ her daughters from their dad’s diagnosis.

Heming expressed, “This condition is often misidentified, overlooked, or misunderstood. Therefore, reaching a definitive diagnosis was crucial for me to comprehend what frontotemporal dementia entails and then share that knowledge with our kids.

As a lifestyle expert, let me express this in a personal tone: I’ve always been honest and transparent about our situation. Over the years, you’ve witnessed Bruce’s decline, and that’s something I don’t intend to conceal from you. My goal isn’t to protect you from it; rather, it’s about fostering understanding and resilience together.

‘From our therapist, I picked up that when children ask questions, it means they’re eager to grasp the answer. If Bruce appears to be facing difficulties, I would make sure to discuss it with the kids so they can comprehend. Unfortunately, this illness is persistent, advancing, and ultimately fatal.’

Heming shared that their kids generally avoid discussing the more serious aspects of it with them, and haven’t inquired about it either.

However, she expressed that Mabel and Evelyn ‘know that Daddy’s not going to get better.’

Emma expressed that she wouldn’t allow ‘FTD’ to bring ruin to our entire family, as she believes that’s not what Bruce would have wanted. She also shared her aspiration to assist other families who might find themselves in a similar situation.

Over the last weekend, she honored her husband with a touching gesture on the occasion of Father’s Day.

She posted an old picture of her daughter Mabel embracing her father and said, “Father’s Day greetings to every dad battling a disability or illness, demonstrating their strength where they can, and to the kids who stand by them faithfully.

‘The lessons Bruce imparts to our daughters extend beyond mere speech. They learn resilience, unconditional love, and the power of just being there. This picture speaks volumes. Love evolves, it adapts, and it endures, even amidst change.’

Indeed, I find myself deeply moved by these significant days. On occasion like this, I can’t help but feel a profound sense of sadness washing over me.

I deeply hope, from the very core of me, that life could be easier for him and less burdensome for our family.

Emma went on saying, “In our FTD community, we often say, ‘Things are as they are.’ This phrase may come across as nonchalant, but for me, it serves a grounding purpose. It reminds me to accept the current situation and stop resisting it as much as I used to.

‘Today, let’s celebrate the bada** dads, those who are here, and those we carry with us Onward.’

Additionally, Rumer posted a touching tribute for her father Bruce, expressing her profound sense of sorrow.

I, as a devoted admirer, showcased an array of pictures chronicling the actor’s journey through the years. Among these, there was a classic black-and-white snapshot capturing a tender moment where I was in an embrace with Mr. Willis.

Today, I find it challenging not to share every aspect of my life with you. There’s a profound longing in my heart to speak with you, to update you on my happenings, and delve into the intricacies of my existence. I yearn for the comfort of your embrace, to converse about our lives, the tales of our joys, hardships, triumphs, and setbacks alike.

The actress added, ‘I wish I asked you more questions while you could still tell me about it all.

Instead of being sad on this day, I’d rather focus on gratitude, recognizing the fortune of having you as my father, someone who is still by my side. Today, I can embrace you, share tender moments like kissing your cheek and rubbing your head, and even regale you with tales.

Rumer went on, “I’ll cherish each moment I spend with you as your eyes brighten when they meet Louetta. I love you immensely, Dad, and I’m thankful for this day as Father’s Day.

Expressing affection towards everyone who shares similar experiences such as being on this journey with me, those who have experienced father loss, dedicated single mothers who play both roles, and future partners who may take on the role of a father…

As an absolutely thrilled and eager reader, I can’t help but share the exciting news that our beloved author, Emma, has another masterpiece in store for us! Titled “The Unexpected Journey,” her latest work is set to be released later this year, specifically on September 9th. Mark your calendars, fellow fans, as we embark together on yet another unforgettable adventure with Emma!
