As a fervent admirer of Bruce Willis’ illustrious career and unparalleled talent, it is heart-wrenching to witness his current health struggles. The man who brought us Die Hard, Pulp Fiction, and countless other iconic roles is now grappling with aphasia and frontotemporal dementia (FTD). It’s a stark reminder that even the toughest of action heroes are not invincible.

On a leisurely drive through Los Angeles on a Sunday, Bruce Willis flashed a smile amidst his ongoing struggle with aphasia and dementia, demonstrating his resilience.

69-year-old actor from Pulp Fiction was found sitting in the front passenger seat of a black car, donning a black Los Angeles Dodgers cap with mesh material, as his home team, the Dodgers, maintained a 2-0 advantage over the New York Yankees during the ongoing World Series.

On that crisp autumn day in Southern California, Willis donned a sleek black zip-up hooded jacket over a crisp white T-shirt.

The Die Hard star appeared relaxed and in an upbeat mood amid the daytime trek.

Actor from The Sixth Sense has five daughters: Mabel Ray (age 12), Evelyn (age 10) who are his children with wife Emma Heming Willis (aged 46); and Rumer (age 36), Scout (age 33), and Tallulah (age 30) who he shares with ex-wife Demi Moore (aged 61).

Less than two weeks ago, I found myself stepping out, following close on the heels of Heming posting an old-school selfie of us on Instagram, with the caption, “Snapping pics even before they were called selfies.

Speaking recently on The Drew Barrymore Show, I shared some updates about my former partner’s wellbeing. I expressed that, considering all the circumstances, he currently finds himself in a secure and steady position.

Moore, previously married to Willis from 1987-2000, discussed her guidance to their children for navigating the prolonged family health predicament they’ve faced.

In his interview, Moore expressed that he advises his children by meeting them as they currently are. He doesn’t focus on their past selves or what he desires them to become, but rather embraces who they are at this very moment.

“From this point on, there’s an abundance of beauty, happiness, love, and affection. Whenever I’m in Los Angeles, I visit weekly, cherishing each moment we spend together.

Rumer said, ‘He is great. I love him so much. Thank you.’

In May, Rumer shared on the Today show that her father was in a good state and was developing a close relationship with their one-year-old daughter Louetta, whom she co-parents with ex Derek Richard Thomas.

She mentioned that she caught sight of him immediately prior to her arrival in New York, and speaking of her child Lou, she started to walk towards him, and it was incredibly heartwarming.

It’s truly delightful as it reminds me that he’s essentially a ‘father of daughters,’ in every sense. It brings out a tender, paternal vibe that feels very endearing, especially since he treats her with such kindness.

Rumer openly discussed her family’s health concern, hoping it would inform others facing similar situations.

She expressed, “It’s crucial for us to be open and honest as a family about his situation, because if it helps another family facing similar challenges, or raises awareness about the disease with the goal of discovering a cure or assisting others in any way, I believe that’s truly significant.

Over the past two years, Willis has been living beyond the time when he made his health struggle public, following a joint announcement about his aphasia diagnosis made by relatives such as his daughters, wife, and ex-wife on Instagram on March 30, 2022.

It’s been reported that the well-known figure from Hollywood has been dealing with certain health problems, including a condition called aphasia, which affects his mental capabilities.

Due to various circumstances and after careful deliberation, Bruce has chosen to part ways with his cherished profession. This is an emotionally taxing period for us as a family, and we deeply value your ongoing kindness, empathy, and encouragement during this time.

Speaking directly from the heart, I’d say: “We’re marching forward as one tight-knit family, and in light of our shared love for him, we felt compelled to invite his devoted fans into this journey. Just like Bruce often advises, ‘Live it up!’ And that’s exactly what we intend to do, united as one.

On February 16, 2023, the family released a statement confirming that Willis was diagnosed with Frontotemporal Dementia (FTD), which is often referred to as the most common type of dementia. Regrettably, they mentioned that at this time, there are no known treatments available for this condition.

As Bruce’s health situation progresses, we wish for any media spotlight to be directed towards increasing understanding of this under-researched disease. The family believes that, like Bruce always did, we can use attention to make a difference – by advocating for awareness and research in public and private spheres.

It’s clear to us, deep within, that if given the chance right now, he would express his solidarity – shining a light globally on the issue, and fostering understanding among all who face this devastating illness, considering its far-reaching effects on not just the patients themselves, but their families as well.

Aphasia is described by the Mayo Clinic as a communication disorder, where it impacts your capacity to speak or write effectively and also influences your comprehension of both spoken and written language.

The actor’s family chose not to disclose the reason behind his speech disorder (aphasia), as there are several possible explanations for it.

The condition could occur following a head injury or stroke, or can be a predecessor to a brain tumor or Alzheimer’s disease. Patients who are living with the condition are typically treated with speech therapy and taught ways to communicate non-verbally.
