Bruce Springsteen debuted his new song, ‘Streets of Minneapolis,’ which criticizes ICE, at a protest in Minnesota on Friday.
Following the deaths of Renee Good and Alex Pretti, allegedly caused by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), 76-year-old musician Bruce Springsteen released a new song on Wednesday. Springsteen’s 1984 hit, “Born in the USA,” was previously censored in the UK.
According to NBC News, he performed the song live for the first time at a charity concert named Defend Minnesota!, which took place at First Avenue.
Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello shared a flier for the event via Instagram on Wednesday.
Bruce Springsteen released a new protest song this week, sharing on Instagram that he wrote and recorded it quickly – on Saturday and yesterday, respectively – as a direct reaction to the violence happening in Minneapolis.
This is for the people of Minneapolis, especially our immigrant neighbors, and in remembrance of Alex Pretti and Renee Good.
He signed off, ‘Stay free, Bruce Springsteen.’
The official YouTube video for “Streets of Minneapolis” has been watched over 4.6 million times.
Bruce Springsteen’s announcement of new music on Instagram has received over 310,000 likes from his 2.1 million followers.
Morello recently posted online that he’s heading to Minneapolis to support the community, praising their courageous resistance against ICE, former President Trump, and what he described as growing government oppression.
When people defend each other and fight for fairness and freedom, they must rely on their own strength. No one else will help, and the time to act is now.
The musician stated that all money earned from this project will be donated to the families of Renee Good and Alex Pretti, who were killed by ICE in Minneapolis.
The promotional poster featured performers like Tom Morello, Rise Against, Al Di Meola, and Ike Reilly, and hinted at ‘a very special guest’ who would also be appearing.
Tom Morello called Bruce Springsteen a “good friend and fellow freedom fighter” when introducing him on stage Friday, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The singer, who is from New Jersey, told a story about advice Tom Morello gave him before his album, Streets of Minneapolis, came out.
He addressed the audience, acknowledging that Tom tends to get carried away. He recounted a recent conversation where he playfully chided Tom for being overly passionate, saying, “Tom, you’re being a bit preachy.” Tom responded with a surprisingly forceful statement: “Bruce, while subtlety is great, sometimes you just need to be direct and confrontational.”
Hey everyone, as a lifestyle expert, I’m speaking to all of you – whether you’re in Minneapolis, anywhere in Minnesota, or across the United States. This is for all of us!
Bruce Springsteen unexpectedly showed up after a UK radio station recently edited a line from his song “Born in the USA.”
The song recounts being given a gun and sent to fight in a faraway country, tasked with killing people of Asian descent, all as an American-born citizen. It expresses a sense of disillusionment with this experience.
The Sun reports that Absolute Radio will edit the song to remove a certain phrase when it’s broadcast on their station.
This song is one of Bruce Springsteen’s most famous, and it tells the story of a Vietnam veteran struggling to adjust to life after the war and feeling disconnected from society.
