Bruce Springsteen speaks out on Trump again: ‘They’re persecuting people for their right to free speech’
The beef is building between Bruce Springsteen and President Trump.
As a dedicated cinema enthusiast, I must share my perspective on the recent events unfolding during Bruce Springsteen’s “Land of Hopes and Dreams” tour in Manchester, England. On Saturday, amidst the bustling energy of this vibrant city, The Boss didn’t hold back in his verbal confrontation against Donald Trump – a response that followed Trump’s scathing attacks on the iconic musician via Truth Social the previous day. In his tweet, Trump labeled Springsteen as an “obnoxious jerk,” a “shriveled ‘prune'” of a rocker, and advised him to remain silent. However, true to form, The Boss didn’t let such words deter him from expressing his convictions.
As a devoted cinema-goer, I must confess, Springsteen didn’t oblige in the way I had hoped. However, from the Co-op Live venue, he delivered a firm three-minute speech that resonated deeply with me. He graciously acknowledged our enthusiastic applause and shared his thoughts about the current state of America: “Events unfolding now are significantly reshaping the essence of our democratic nation, and they’re too significant to overlook.
As a dedicated cinephile, I found myself echoing phrases from my earlier performance in Manchester – words that had initially stirred controversy. These included remarks about the potential defunding of American universities, the reversal of civil rights legislation, and aligning with tyrants, standing firm against those striving for their liberties.
Trump’s post on Truth Social seemed to imply a potential threat towards Bruce Springsteen, stating “We’ll see how it goes for him” upon his return to the country. However, this comment didn’t deter Springsteen, who is famously known for his hit song “Born in the USA.

At home, individuals are being oppressed for expressing their right to free speech and protest. This is occurring currently, Springsteen stated. In America, the wealthiest people are finding joy in neglecting the sickness and death of impoverished children worldwide. This is also happening now. Within my nation, they seem to derive pleasure from inflicting pain on dedicated American workers.
In a calm tone, he outlined the numerous worries shared by those critical of Trump, his supporters, and his administration’s decisions.
Springsteen stated that residents are being taken off U.S. streets without legal due process, sent to foreign detention centers like prisoners, a situation currently ongoing. He criticized the majority of our elected officials for their failure to safeguard the American public from the misconduct of an unsuitable president and a lawless administration. Springsteen added that they seem indifferent or ignorant about what it truly means to be deeply American.
He finished on a positive note.
For the past half-century, I’ve been singing about a true America, warts and all. Despite its imperfections, it remains a remarkable nation filled with extraordinary people. We will get through this challenging time. I have faith because I trust in James Baldwin’s words: ‘Although there may not be as much kindness in the world as one wishes, there is enough.’
For quite some time, Springsteen has been a vocal opponent of Trump, even going as far as supporting Kamala Harris during the 2024 presidential race. In contrast, Trump is infamous for his bitter tirades against stars who speak out against him, like Taylor Swift and Robert DeNiro.
