Bruce Springsteen shares health update on wife Patti Scialfa amid her battle with rare blood cancer
As a dedicated follower of Bruce Springsteen and his music for over four decades, I have seen the Boss navigate through triumphs and trials with grace and resilience. His recent update about his wife Patti Scialfa‘s battle against multiple myeloma is yet another testament to their unwavering strength.
Bruce Springsteen says his wife Patti Scialfa is ‘doing good’ amid her rare blood cancer battle.
As a lifestyle expert, I’m sharing an update from the legendary singer, who turned 75 this year. His beloved wife, also 71 years old, was diagnosed with cancer back in 2018. Recently, he took to the airwaves in an advertisement for an ABC special, discussing his wife’s condition and emphasizing the importance of early cancer detection.
‘She’s doing good, we caught it early, which was important,’ the singer said on Tuesday.
‘It’s a tough disease, it’s very fatiguing,’ he told the outlet.
The special will premiere on ABC on October 20 at 10 p.m. EDT. Rock Diary: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, the hitmaker’s documentary, is slated for release on October 25.
In 2018, Patti, known for her guitar playing in her husband’s band E Street Band, was privately grappling with a type of blood cancer called multiple myeloma. As a result, she took a break from touring to focus on managing her health issues.
Previously this past month, she spoke openly about her health issue during the screening of Bruce’s documentary at the Toronto Film Festival in Canada.
As a loyal devotee, I’d like to share Patti’s thoughts about her decision to reduce her live stage appearances: “For four decades, I’ve been gracing the stages with my band. Those initial shows, they were an exhilarating return to the spotlight.
2018 posed unique difficulties for me as my partner Bruce and I were performing a play on Broadway at the time. Unfortunately, I was diagnosed with an early-stage case of multiple myeloma.
She occasionally attends performances, yet she’s not a consistent performer anymore.
The guitarist mentioned, “I need to exercise caution about the activities I engage in and the places I visit because it impacts my immune system.
Occasionally, I attend a performance here and there and have an opportunity to perform a few tunes on stage, which is quite enjoyable. This is my current routine, and I find it satisfactory.
The documentary marks the first time Patti has spoken publicly about her cancer diagnosis.
Since 1991, I’ve had the privilege of being a part of their beautiful family as Bruce’s wife. Together, we’ve been blessed with three incredible kids – Evan, who’s now 34, Jessica, at 32, and Samuel, turning 30 this year. It’s an absolute joy to be their parent!

Patti hails from Deal, New Jersey, which is situated along the Jersey Shore in Monmouth County.
This musician, who is both a vocalist and a guitar player, completed their high school education at Asbury Park High School – the very same location where Springsteen refined his musical skills prior to achieving fame during the 1970s and 1980s.
I leapt at the chance to join the E Street Band back in 1984, mere days before our grand kickoff on the Born In The U.S.A. Tour. It was a dream come true for this ardent fan!
