Bruce Greenwood has a "deep, deep wish" to come back to Star Trek

As a seasoned Star Trek fan with decades of interstellar voyages under my belt, I eagerly await the return of Christopher Pike to the final frontier. Bruce Greenwood‘s portrayal of this iconic character has left an indelible mark on me, and his desire for closure with Captain Kirk is palpable.

In my gaming world, I, as Admiral Pike, have had a tumultuous journey. In the original timeline, I was tragically involved in an accident that sent me to Talos IV for the rest of my days. The Prime Timeline was harsh on me, but then came the Kelvin Timeline, offering a glimmer of hope. However, Star Trek Into Darkness [2013] left fans like me heartbroken as my character fell victim to a brutal terrorist attack. Alas, I didn’t resurface in the last Star Trek film, Star Trek Beyond, but whispers of a Star Trek 4 movie make my heart race with anticipation. And in a recent issue of Star Trek Magazine [2015], Bruce Greenwood, who breathes life into me, expressed his longing to revisit the character once more. Here’s hoping that the stars align and I get another chance to boldly go where no man has gone before!

Isn’t it fascinating how in Star Trek, characters often come back after they seem to have passed away? It’s not unusual for some characters, like Captain Kirk [William Shatner], to potentially still be alive or even make a comeback. In the Star Trek universe, it seems that death isn’t always permanent, especially if a compelling storyline requires their presence.

Is it possible that Pike could reappear in Star Trek 4? There’s little question that Greenwood would don the uniform once more, given his desire to complete unfinished business with Chris Pine’s Captain Kirk. He yearned to convey to Kirk that he was prepared for whatever future events might bring.

No, I think there’s room for more conversation, but that’s just my deep, deep wish to come back. On any level, I’m not willing to suggest the relationship is finished. It isn’t. There’s so much that drives the story as there’s so much left to be said between the two. You understand how much they care about each other, and you want to see that develop.
You want to see Pike actually say, “Go well. You are ready,” but we never get there.

Occasionally, it’s more impactful when a character develops independently, without a guide, and such was the case with Kirk as he evolved into a captain. Throughout Star Trek Beyond, he persisted in his learning journey. In the hypothetical scenario that Star Trek 4 is produced, Kirk might have progressed to the stage where he no longer requires a mentor. However, it would be delightful if Admiral Pike made an appearance, even in a flashback sequence, acknowledging Kirk’s efforts and expressing his pride in him.
