Brooklyn Beckham’s old football coach felt sorry for him, describing his life in the spotlight as difficult. He was also concerned about Beckham, whom he remembered as a quiet and well-mannered young man.
Brooklyn Beckham, 26, publicly announced last week that he has no plans to repair his relationship with his family.
Brooklyn recently criticized his parents, Victoria and David Beckham, stating he’s determined to define his own story. He said his upbringing was filled with staged social media posts, overly public family events, and relationships that didn’t feel genuine.
Anthony McCool, who coached Brooklyn when he was a 14-year-old playing for Queen’s Park Rangers, recently shared insights about the young footballer in an interview for ITV’s “Beckham v Beckham: The Price of Fame?” program, which aired on Thursday.
Anthony described the luxurious lifestyle in Brooklyn and explained how his own shyness and constant security detail – even during practice – made it hard for him to feel comfortable.
He described Brooklyn as initially quiet and reserved, avoiding eye contact. It took a while for Brooklyn to open up, but he was always very polite.
I was so confused when he showed up and hadn’t brought anything to drink – everyone’s meant to bring their own. I asked him about it, and he actually said they hadn’t given him one! Then, this security guard nearby immediately jumped in and asked if there was a problem. It was just a weird moment, honestly.
This person had someone sent out, and then suddenly reappeared, rushing into the dressing room like a character from an action movie – complete with an earpiece and a case of Lucozade. He explained he was responding to a comment that someone in Brooklyn needed a drink, which made everyone laugh.
Anthony described the impact on Brooklyn and confessed he previously believed the young person was behaving erratically or strangely.
Anthony explained he noticed Brooklyn seemed down and realized how tough things must be for him. He felt sorry for Brooklyn, imagining he worried everyone was making fun of him, and that’s what really struck a chord with Anthony.
Honestly, it really bothered me. He just never showed much of anything, you know? No big highs, no real lows… it was like he was always…distant, almost in a daze. And I got the feeling he was actually embarrassed sometimes, which just broke my heart because he’s so amazing and shouldn’t feel that way!
Anthony defended David and Victoria, explaining he understood they were in a difficult situation trying to protect their son.
He stated that nothing could have changed the outcome, and he believed the parents might have been attempting to help by giving their child some space.
The Daily Mail has contacted Brooklyn’s representatives for comment.
Afton McKeith, who says she had a teenage romance with Brooklyn Beckham, also claims his parents, David and Victoria, would intentionally inform the paparazzi about his location.
Oh my god, can you believe it? Apparently, Afton just dropped this bombshell – she’s claiming David and Victoria used to actually tell the paparazzi where David would be! Like, they’d basically set up the photo ops themselves! I’m absolutely floored. It’s just… so calculated, if true. I need to know everything!
Afton went to sixth form with Brooklyn in 2017 and she says the pair had a brief romance.
I was watching the interview with Afton, Gillian McKeith’s daughter, and she explained that you could really see how upset and anxious he was getting. It was clear to anyone watching, she said.
I definitely remember paparazzi being there almost every day. Someone must have been coordinating them, because they clearly knew his schedule very well – it wasn’t just chance.
When questioned about who might have been leaking information to the paparazzi regarding Brooklyn’s whereabouts, Afton responded that she wouldn’t reveal her suspicions, but she had a strong feeling about it and didn’t want to accuse anyone directly.
Investigators asked her if she believed the person involved was a student at her school. She replied that she didn’t think so.
It seems like the person who did this had complete knowledge of his daily routine – they knew exactly where he was and what he was doing at all times, including his breaks. We need to consider who would have that level of detailed information.
When asked ‘Surely not his parents?’ Afton refused to comment further and shared a knowing look.
Afton explained her reasons for speaking up now, saying she believes Brooklyn did the right thing by releasing a statement. She feels that years of inaccurate reporting about Brooklyn and Nicola in the press has become overwhelming and stressful for them.
Eventually, it all became overwhelming for him. He believed that the best way to care for your children is to keep them safe.
‘And putting your children in the public eye is very exposing.’
The Daily Mail contacted representatives for Brooklyn and David and Victoria for comment.
