Brittany Cartwright breaks silence after Jax Taylor divorce filing with pointed message
As I delve into the complexities of Brittany Cartwright and Jax Taylor’s tumultuous relationship, I can’t help but feel a sense of empathy for these reality TV stars. Their story is a poignant reminder that even the most glamorous lives can hide deep-rooted struggles.
After remaining quiet on social media, Brittany Cartwright spoke up following her unexpected divorce petition filed against Jax Taylor on Tuesday.
The actress from Vanderpump Rules, aged 35, who tied the knot with Taylor (aged 45) in 2019, recently posted a striking photo indicating her transition beyond their marriage.
The star wore hot pink and sported a glamorous make-up look in the snap captioned: ‘Getting my sparkle back.’
Brittany cited irreconcilable differences as her reason for ending the marriage.
I reached out to a spokesperson from Cartwright and NBCUniversal (Bravo’s parent company) for their thoughts on the matter.
In their extravagant wedding (as seen on Vanderpump Rules), this couple now shares a three-year-old son named Cruz. Brittany, his mother, is petitioning for primary legal and physical custody of him, but she’s willing to accommodate visitation rights for her former partner.
Furthermore, Cartwright aims to prevent the court from granting either party spousal maintenance.
Cartwright cited their date of separation as January 24.
The submission was made some days following Taylor’s discharge from a healthcare facility focusing on mental wellness. Earlier, Taylor’s representative had confirmed to Us Weekly that his departure was expected the previous week.
Cartwright and Taylor wed in 2019 but separated this past February.
The early stages of their romantic relationship were shown in the Bravo series Vanderpump Rules. Their divorce was also featured in a spin-off titled The Valley. Notably, Cartwright shared that she and her son Cruz had left their shared home.
Brittany shared in a private moment that she and Jax had experienced numerous problems throughout the summer. Even when filming ended, it seemed like their difficulties only escalated further and further.
Approximately six weeks back, I parted ways with Jax. Since then, I’ve been staying in an Airbnb with Cruz, as Jax refused to vacate the house, according to her remarks during the final episode.
Brittany pointed out that Jax’s refusal to leave home displayed his self-centeredness. Brittany explained her decision to depart with their three-year-old son, Cruz, due to an unhealthy living environment at home. Brittany also mentioned that Jax often arrived with a hangover and was as unpleasant as a snake in the morning.
Brittany explained, ‘That’s when I began realizing all the things he had done to me. It was as if a massive weight had fallen on me.’
During their relationship, Brittany claimed that Jax was unfaithful to her, showed her disrespect, and embarrassed her.
Brittany expressed, “I’ve endured much hardship in this relationship, and now, I find myself unable to bear it any longer.”
In the wake of our parting, I opened up about the underlying reasons behind our divorce in an exclusive chat with DailyMail.com, explaining that we’d faced marital struggles for quite some time.
She shared that the arrival of their first child, Cruz, in 2021 led her to take a fresh look at her marriage with the contentious figure from Vanderpump Rules.
She explained, “For me, it felt like standing up for myself. Having a child made me realize more clearly what I’m entitled to and what I won’t tolerate moving forward in life.”
“I instinctively understood that it was essential for me to determine my aspirations for the future and create an incredibly favorable environment for my son. This is the only thing that truly matters to me.”
In April, Cartwright revealed that her marriage without sexual intimacy with Jax had pushed her to her limit. She confessed that they had contemplated dating others during their separation, expressing a desire not to spend the remainder of her life feeling unhappy.
During an interview with Us Weeky, a former cast member of Vanderpump Rules shared that their sexual relationship with Taylor had significantly decreased over the past few years, leading to a negative impact on her self-confidence.
She expressed that she often felt inadequate. If someone starts to act as if they don’t value you and are also being unkind, it can feel like, ‘Why am I even here?’ At that point, it seems like living with a housemate rather than a partner. She reached her limit.
In a conversation regarding their decreased intimate moments, Cartwright responded to Taylor by stating “I’m 44 and I’m tired,” which she found unacceptable as an explanation.
Additionally, Brittany openly acknowledged that the economic pressure they faced after being let go from Vanderpump Rules in 2020 played a role in the strains that developed within their marriage.
‘It was definitely a difficult time in our relationship,’ she confessed.
She explained how her role changed significantly, as she started earning the primary income since she was employed and also involved in commercial endorsements and various brand partnerships.
It was incredibly fortunate for me that all those events unfolded in my favor, however, Jax didn’t experience the same positive occurrences. This significant difference in fortune led to a notable change in our relationship, which had a lasting impact on us for some time.
Previously on their podcast When Reality Hits, Jax disclosed that he and Cartwright were actively exploring all possibilities before even contemplating a divorce.
‘I am not — I repeat not — dating anybody. I was seen out with someone and it was strictly lunch. Obviously, Brittany and I are separated and have been for a long time. What we are going through right now is tough. Marriage is not easy,’ he explained.
The bar owner went on to say, “We’re exploring various options such as therapy, considering separation, and potentially even dating others.”
He shared with his audience, “We’re making an effort to explore all options before we might need to consider separation — if it comes to that. A part of spending time apart involves discovering new connections. Every marriage is unique, but in our case, this seems beneficial for us.”
In 2017, Brittany forgave Jax following the disclosure of his infidelity with their co-star, Faith Stowers.
She stayed loyal to him during difficult periods, but seeing them fight frequently in their son’s presence was what ultimately led her to separate from him.
Brittany and Jax started dating in 2015, two years before he admitted to infidelity.
They continued as a couple, became engaged in the year 2018, tied the knot at the Kentucky Castle, which is their homestate, in June of 2019, and were blessed with a child named Cruz in 2021.
Jax and Brittany are currently starring in the Vanderpump Rules spin-off The Valley.
This engaging television show focuses on a duo, along with Kristen Doute and other companions from their social circle, as they deal with the ups and downs of marriage and parenthood while residing in Los Angeles’ San Fernando Valley.
