Kevin Federline, Britney Spears’ former husband, has made a startling accusation: he claims their children were once frightened to find their mother standing at their bedroom door with a knife while they were sleeping.
In his new memoir, *You Thought You Knew*, 47-year-old Kevin Federline revealed a surprising piece of information, according to a preview shared by The New York Times.
Britney Spears, 43, has reportedly been struggling with a difficult relationship with her two sons, Sean Preston, 19, and Jayden, 18, in recent years. Their father claims the boys stopped wanting to visit her home as teenagers, and they were reportedly afraid to do so.
According to Federline, they would occasionally wake up in the middle of the night to find her standing in the doorway, silently watching them. She’d ask, “Oh, you’re awake?” while holding a knife, then simply turn and walk away without saying anything.
Federline also wrote about his growing concerns about his ex after she began behaving erratically.
Federline expressed his worry that Britney Spears was heading down a path with no turning back. He stated in the book, ‘I feel like this situation with Britney is quickly becoming irreversible.’

Federline admits things are clearly not right. He feels time is running out, and a crisis is looming if the situation doesn’t improve. His main worry is that their sons will be the ones left to deal with the aftermath.
Britney Spears’s ex-husband, Kevin Federline, writes in his memoir about the night in 2008 when Spears was taken to the psychiatric ward at UCLA Medical Center. This happened after a disagreement over custody of their sons, which led to her being placed on a 5150 hold – a temporary psychiatric evaluation.
Federline described it as an incredibly difficult night, watching his partner go through such a tough time.
He wrote that he was deeply upset by what she was experiencing. She wasn’t just someone he’d known—she was the woman he’d loved, the person he’d shared his life with, and the mother of his children.
This event happened right before Britney Spears’ conservatorship began, a legal arrangement that lasted 13 years and finally ended thanks to the support of the #FreeBritney movement.
But Federline feels the movement had unintended consequences on the pop star’s current wellbeing.
He believes the initial desire to end the conservatorship likely came from a well-intentioned place, but worries the strong reaction from Britney’s fans may have discouraged professionals from offering help to his ex, fearing similar backlash.
He argued that those who previously dedicated themselves to the case should now focus their energy on supporting Britney Spears, emphasizing that the situation has moved beyond simply seeking her freedom and is now a matter of her well-being and survival.

Federline admitted to The Times he has not spoken with Spears about what he has written.
I’ve always supported Britney and have only ever wanted my sons to have a strong relationship with their mother. It’s been difficult, though, because my children don’t know the woman I married. I’ve spent the last twenty years trying to help them understand her.
In her memoir, Britney Spears stated she never struggled with alcohol or had any interest in hard drugs, though she did admit to using Adderall, a medication for ADHD. She also shared that she experienced postpartum depression during and after her difficult separation and custody dispute.
In her memoir, Britney Spears wrote that Kevin Federline attempted to portray her as unstable and unfit. She claims he even suggested she should lose custody of her children completely.
The Daily Mail reached out to Britney Spears’ team for a response to Kevin Federline’s statements, but they haven’t received one yet. A representative for Spears told The Times they wouldn’t be commenting.
The dancer famously married Britney Spears in 2004 following a quick romance, and they had two children together.
However, the marriage didn’t last, and Federline filed for divorce in 2006. They were both officially divorced the next year. Following a mental health crisis for Spears, Federline was granted full custody of their children.

Britney Spears has reportedly been having a difficult relationship with her children lately. In August 2023, they moved to Hawaii to live with their father.
According to The Daily Mail, the singer was surprised with a visit from her children last Christmas. She’s reportedly become closer to her son, Jayden, recently.
In a statement about his upcoming book, due out October 21st, Federline shared that his memoir will offer very personal and honest details about his well-known marriage.
The former backup dancer shared that he fulfilled his lifelong ambitions, overcame significant personal pain, and faced constant criticism, all while being a supportive father to his children through their own difficult times.
Britney Spears’ recent divorce from Sam Asghari has sparked his public disapproval of her memoir.
Sam said that Federline was a dedicated father, and this book would be the first to offer guidance on ‘being a professional father,’ likely alluding to the child support payments he receives from Spears, according to TMZ.
