Britney Spears’ son Sean Preston is using her last name on social media… NOT dad Kevin Federline’s

Following a recent get-together, Britney Spears’ son, Sean Preston, is now using her surname on his social media accounts.

TMZ reports that Sean, age 20, appears to have removed his father Kevin Federline’s last name from his Instagram account, now using the handle ‘Sean P Spears’.

Prior to the change, his Instagram user name was simply Sean Preston. 

This shift happened after Sean reconnected with his well-known mother, age 44, after a time of not being in contact, and following her arrest for driving under the influence.

This week, the pop star posted several photos on social media of her sons, Sean and 19-year-old Jayden, whom she shares with her 48-year-old ex-husband.

The Daily Mail has reached out to representatives for Spears and Federline for comment.

After Britney Spears’ divorce in 2007 and the start of her conservatorship in 2008, her ex-husband, Kevin Federline, gained primary custody of their two sons. He later relocated with the boys to Hawaii.

In 2022, Federline shared that his sons had been distant from their mother. However, after trying to mend things, it seems they’ve now rebuilt their relationship and are on good terms.

Britney Spears unexpectedly spent the weekend on a sailing trip with her two sons. Videos posted to Instagram show the three of them together on a boat.

Britney Spears received a visit from her son Jayden earlier this month following her DUI arrest. She also saw Jayden around Christmas, but it seems she hasn’t seen her other son, Sean, since last year.

Since being arrested for driving under the influence on March 3rd in Westlake Village, California – close to her home – Britney Spears has remained sober.

The singer of ‘Womanizer’ has been consistently going to Alcoholics Anonymous meetings in the Los Angeles area.

According to a source who spoke with The Daily Mail, Britney has been sharing her feelings openly and honestly in her Alcoholics Anonymous meetings, finding it a helpful and healing process.

She’s only allowed herself small treats like expensive coffee. She’s being very careful with her health so she can be there for her children.

Following the news of her arrest, a representative told the Daily Mail that the situation was regrettable and unacceptable.

Britney’s sons will be spending time with her, and her family and friends are working on a plan to help her get back on track and prioritize her health and happiness.

Ventura County sheriff records show Britney is scheduled to appear in court on May 4.

In December, Britney Spears publicly criticized her family after her son Sean spent Christmas with them in Louisiana.

Britney Spears has been estranged from her family for many years, a situation that began during and continued after her 13-year conservatorship, which concluded in November 2021.

Last October, Federline said his two sons had stopped speaking to the singer again, reportedly after seeing something disturbing at her house.

Kevin Federline claimed his sons were deeply frightened, with one reportedly fearing for their mother’s life. He shared these concerns during an interview on Piers Morgan Uncensored.

He said his son, Sean Preston, visited Britney earlier this year and didn’t want to return after what he experienced there.

My younger son, Jayden, is nineteen and has visited her several times in the past year. However, he’s stopped seeing her recently due to what’s been happening.

When questioned about why his sons avoid his mother and what issues they’ve witnessed, the retired dancer simply stated he wasn’t going to discuss it.

Britney Spears’ ex, Kevin Federline, said it’s up to his sons to share details about what they’ve witnessed, adding that those experiences have been disturbing.

Federline said he hopes Spears can develop a similar close bond with their children, like the one he shares with them.

It’s not about hurting her; it’s about being honest and helping her improve.

In his 2025 memoir, You Thought You Knew, Kevin Federline described instances where he claimed Britney Spears behaved unpredictably with their sons.

Kevin Federline, who was married to Britney Spears from 2004 to 2007, has alleged that Spears physically assaulted their son Sean, intentionally gave their son Jayden a food he was allergic to (shellfish), and at one point expressed a desire that both of her children were no longer alive.

A spokesperson for Britney Spears has refuted all accusations made by Kevin Federline. Spears herself responded, claiming Federline was manipulating her and strongly disagreeing with his statements in a social media post.
