Following Britney Spears’ recent arrest on suspicion of driving under the influence, her former lawyer, Mathew Rosengart, has publicly addressed the situation.
The 44-year-old singer was arrested by the California Highway Patrol on March 4th in Ventura County after several 911 calls were made. She was released the following day and is due in court on May 4th.
Rosengart previously acted as Britney Spears’ lawyer during her 2021 conservatorship case, and she later praised him as a fantastic attorney.
I was truly honored to represent and defend Britney, and I’m incredibly proud of everything we accomplished together,” he said in a statement to the Daily Mail.
This includes assisting her, as she asked, to regain her freedom and legal rights after a 13-year legal arrangement took them away, as well as handling many other issues.
Rosengart then shared that Spears ‘is and will always be an icon.’
He stated that although he wasn’t familiar with the details of what happened on March 4th, he believes that with freedom comes accountability. He expressed his satisfaction that Britney will do what’s necessary and follow the law.
The lawyer expressed his continued support for the singer, stating he will always care for her and help her however possible.
As a lifestyle expert, I witnessed firsthand how deeply involved Mathew Rosengart became in Britney Spears’ fight for freedom. He was a crucial advocate during her 13-year conservatorship, and I was so relieved when it finally ended in November 2021. It was a truly inspiring journey to watch her regain control of her life.
He later helped the music artist land a deal to release her 2023 memoir The Woman In Me.
The lawyer also helped create a prenuptial agreement before her marriage to her former husband, Sam Asghari.
A few years prior, in 2024, Spears publicly thanked Rosengart on social media after experiencing a difficult time with her mental health at the Chateau Marmont hotel.
She excitedly told everyone how much she appreciated Mr. Mathew, saying he’s been like a father to her and really helped her through a difficult night. She shared that she truly adores and admires him.
The federal prosecutor responded to the message, telling the Daily Mail in a statement that he was both surprised and flattered by it, and that he felt the same way.
Later that year, he ended his work as the singer’s lawyer after finalizing all remaining legal matters.
Rosengart previously released a statement saying it had been an ‘honor’ to work with Spears over the past three years.

Even more importantly, we got her fundamental rights and freedoms back – and that’s something I’ll always cherish being a part of.
He explained that he’s been focused on protecting Britney and resolving all of her legal issues, including complicated court proceedings related to her estate. He emphasized, as he always has, that Britney deserves all the credit for overcoming these challenges.
Britney Spears was arrested last week on March 4th in Ventura County, California, on suspicion of driving under the influence. She was released the next day.
Following the arrest, a spokesperson for Spears issued a statement to the Daily Mail calling the incident ‘unfortunate and completely unacceptable’.

They added, ‘Hopefully, she can get the help and support she needs during this difficult time.
Her sons will be visiting her soon, and her family and friends are finally creating a plan to help her live a healthier and happier life.
During the 911 call, dispatchers and officers described the incident as it happened.
A dispatcher stated, ‘A black sedan, erratic braking, swerving and driving with no tail light.’
An officer asked if all units could move to that location. The vehicle was later determined to be a black BMW convertible, model year 2026.
The call started at approximately 8:13pm, and dispatch confirmed around 9:13pm that the driver had exited the vehicle.
Officers found Adderall in her car and are now testing the pills to see if they contain any other drugs besides the Adderall.
If the substance tests positive for a narcotic, Spears could possibly be looking at jail time.
If drug use isn’t confirmed, the pop star won’t go to jail, according to Los Angeles lawyer Tre Lovell in a statement to the Daily Mail.
It hasn’t been confirmed whether the singer was under the influence when the incident happened.

TMZ reports that Britney Spears’ mugshot won’t be made public, as authorities have decided not to release it.
The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office has decided not to release the booking photo because it doesn’t meet the criteria for public release and they have the discretion to withhold it.
