As I delve into this captivating tale of resilience and camaraderie, I find myself utterly captivated by the lives of these two extraordinary individuals – Danny Appleton and Tom Hardy. The former, a man who bravely stepped onto the mat to compete against the latter, a Hollywood heavyweight, is nothing short of inspiring.

A well-known British hip hop artist has taken an unexpected turn in his professional life, having recently been announced as the winner of the same jiu-jitsu tournament that Tom Hardy, a popular movie star, claimed victory in.

Last weekend, Tinie Tempah shared a photo on Instagram to display his trophy following his win at the third annual Reorg Jiu Jitsu Championships that took place at a university in East London.

35-year-old Patrick Chukwuemeka Okogwu, known by many for his popular tunes, once thrived in the music industry with chart-topping songs like “Pass Out,” “Frisky,” and “Invincible.”

Additionally, he boasts a collection of prestigious honors such as BRIT Awards, MOBO Awards, and an Ivor Novello Award.

And Tinie recently added to his successes after dominating the competition after getting into the self-defence martial art back in 2020.

Overflowing with excitement, I couldn’t wait to share my triumphant moment with everyone! So, I hopped onto social media and posted a string of photos showing off the gleaming medal that Tinie and I had worked so hard to earn together. We were celebrating our victory as a team, and I wanted to let the world know just how proud I was to be a part of it all!

He also shared footage of himself grappling his opponent on the mat.

The triumphant rapper captioned his post writing: ‘REORG OPEN 2024 No Gi Gold! OSSSSSSSSS.’

Last year, I managed to earn another gold medal at the English Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Open, an accomplishment that even UFC fighter Conor McGregor recognized and praised me for.

In 2022, Tinie shared his passion for jiu-jitsu in an interview with Reorg Charity, expressing that while it’s amazing, it’s also extremely challenging. He had previously practiced other martial arts and dabbled in boxing, but he found that jiu-jitsu elevates the experience to a whole new level.

“It’s hard to express the sensation of someone exerting all their effort for five minutes to make you lose consciousness. However, if you manage to endure that, you can handle any challenge.”

The atmosphere here is fantastic as everyone’s committed to improving themselves, and they’re lending a hand to one another. It may seem peculiar, but it’s about both assisting and competing with each other – all in good spirits!

Tinie emulates the path taken by actor Tom Hardy, who demonstrated his status as a genuine action hero in real life when he clinched two gold medals at a charity Jiu-Jitsu tournament in 2022; his army veteran adversary, Danny Appleton, conceded that he was forced to yield before his arm was fractured.

Video clips surfaced, featuring the actor triumphing in each contest and ultimately clinching the title at the REORG Open Jiu-Jitsu Championship held at Aldersley Leisure Village, Wolverhampton, where he clearly outshone his competitors.

It wasn’t until the semifinals that Danny, hailing from Teesside, discovered his competitor was none other than the Peaky Blinders actor, also a blue belt. This revelation came as a surprise to him.

He told LADbible of the ‘surreal’ experience: ‘I did try my best, but he was just a lot stronger than me, I’ve got to admit. He’s a strong guy and a talented guy, too.

‘I have an interesting tale to share. The children were present to witness it, which was crucial, and I even won a bronze medal. So, it wasn’t a waste at all, and I survived to recount the experience.’

When he found himself needing to yield, he admitted: “If the situation is clear and right, tapping is a must to prevent your arm from breaking. It’s really that straightforward.”

Later on, Tom shared that the practice of jiu-jitsu played a crucial role in supporting both his physical and mental health, as well as his prior struggles with substance abuse and psychological issues.

He shared a passionate Instagram post about the positive impact the martial art has had on his life and said he participated in the competition as part of global non-profit organisation REORG.

In 2011, during his preparation for portraying an MMA fighter in the movie Warrior, Tom began training with REORG and studying Brazilian jiu-jitsu.

Lately, he underwent a physical transformation using mixed martial arts training to prepare himself for his part in the 2018 Venom movie.
