British punk rockstar Colin Jerwood dies aged 63 after a short illness as his band pay tribute to ‘our dear friend’

Colin Jerwood, the frontman of British punk rock band Conflict has died aged 63.

On Monday evening, the sad news was shared on the band’s social media platforms, accompanied by a message from Colin’s family that read: ‘With deep sorrow, we confirm that Colin succumbed to a brief illness.’

‘We know for his supporters that this is difficult news to hear.’

The group expressed, ‘It’s hard for us to find the right words to convey how deeply saddened and affected we are by the news of the passing of our bandmate and cherished companion, Colin.’

‘We extend our deepest condolences to James, Georgia and the rest of Colin’s family and friends.’

Additionally, the band posted a link to a tribute website where well-wishers can make charitable contributions in honor of Jerwood.

They asked fans not to come to his funeral, explaining that any messages left on the memorial page would be read by his family, implying that their sentiments would still be noticed in this way.

‘We appreciate all your support for Colin and Conflict over the years.’

The punk band known as Conflict originated in Eltham, which is located in South London, following its creation by Jerwood in 1981 during the surge of punk music in the United Kingdom.

The group is widely recognized for their strong positions on animal welfare and anti-fascism, and they’ve been active in live performances even in recent times. They have concerts scheduled in the near future, spanning various cities in Scotland and Manchester.

The initial group included Colin, Francisco ‘Paco’ Carreno, John, Steve, Pauline, and the one known as ‘Nihilistic Nobody’.

The first members were Colin, Paco Carreno, John, Steve, Pauline, and Paul, also known as ‘Nihilistic Nobody’.

Both sentences convey the same meaning but are slightly different in structure.

Former band drummer, Francisco “Paco” Carreno, died in 2015, aged 49.

In 1982, they first introduced their debut extended play through Crass Records, eventually establishing their own record label called Mortarhate Records.

Mourning enthusiasts expressed their reminiscences of Colin Jerwood, the vocalist from my all-time preferred punk band, Conflict, on social media platforms. One fan wrote: ‘Farewell Colin Jerwood, may you rest in peace.’

Another wrote: ‘Rest in power Colin Jerwood’

It’s regretful to learn about the demise of Colin Jerwood, who was the lead vocalist of Conflict.

For more than two decades, I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with Colin on the Mortarhate label. He was an extraordinary individual – brimming with wit, relentless in his pursuit of success, and consistently pushing boundaries. His impact on punk music is indelible and will continue to echo through time. We’ll deeply miss him.
