British-Irish drama with Iwan Rheon is now available on Netflix
Riviera, which originally aired on Sky back in 2017, has just been added to Netflix (January 13).
The television series “Riviera” ran for three seasons and featured an impressive cast such as Julia Stiles from “10 Things I Hate About You”, Iwan Rheon known for his role in “Game of Thrones”, Lena Olin who starred in “Hunters”, Roxane Duran best recognized from “Interview with the Vampire”, and Juliet Stevenson, familiar to many as “Professor T”.
The story revolves around Georgina Clios (Stiles), an American art connoisseur, whose life takes an unexpected turn upon her husband’s mysterious death in a yacht mishap. As she navigates various complex and intriguing circumstances, she embarks on a quest to unravel the truth behind her husband’s demise.
Originating from Britain and Ireland, this drama series was masterminded by acclaimed Irish film director and scriptwriter Neil Jordan. Known as “Riviera”, it gained immense popularity on Sky, making history as their highest-rated original show during its debut season, according to Variety.
Previously, not just “Sky” show but another one, specifically “Gangs of London“, found a fresh home on Netflix. Notably, with its first two seasons becoming popular among new viewers on the streaming service, coincidentally, the timing was perfect for the debut of “Gangs of London” season three.
Michelle Keegan’s critically acclaimed comedy series “Brassic,” which initially found success on Sky, has also had a strong start on Netflix. The first four seasons of the show can be streamed on Netflix, while the latest fifth season is currently available only on Sky and NOW.
2022 rolled around and I was left reeling, as it seemed like my favorite gaming universe, Riviera, wouldn’t be getting a new season of its captivating drama. Julia Stiles, one of the stars, confirmed that there were no plans for a fourth installment from Sky Drama.
“I loved making that show,” she said during an interview with Radio Times.
The actor mentioned that discussions for another season had taken place, but then the pandemic occurred. However, Stiles also expressed her willingness for a potential movie adaptation of the series, saying she would be open to the idea.
There’s not been any official updates about any potential return for Riviera since then.
