British hip hop duo to reunite nine years after their split in hopes to bring some optimism to 2024
Oh, the sheer elation that courses through me as I hear the news of Rizzle Kicks’ reunion! It’s like a Trumpet-filled symphony to my ears, a soundtrack that transports me back to the days of optimism, pre-Covid, pre-Brexit, and pre-Trump. The days when we danced to Down with the Trumpets, When I Was A Youngster, and Mama Do The Hump without a care in the world.
The music duo, Rizzle Kicks, have revealed their plans for a reunion, aiming to infuse optimism into the year 2024 with their comeback.
In 2011, Jordan ‘Rizzle’ Stephens and Harley ‘Sylvester’ Alexander-Sule initially gained recognition through the launch of their debut single, which was followed by numerous significant performances at major festivals, ultimately securing their position in the UK music industry.
After parting paths following the launch of Slurp! in 2016, they’ve announced that they are reuniting with the goal of reviving this year.
On a Thursday, Jordan and Harley posted an update on Instagram showing them reminiscing with an old tune, “Down with the Trumpets,” prior to inserting a fresh cassette tape into a portable stereo system.
‘We’re back,’ they captioned the clip.

On his podcast, The Red Carpet Treatment, Jordan remarked about their reunion: ‘I believe our music stands the test of time, and it seems to me that we evoke memories of an optimistic era in British history, specifically 2012.’
‘We had the Olympics, pre-Covid, pre-Brexit, pre-Trump, people were living their lives man.’
Rizzle Kicks have released two albums, Stereo Typical in 2011 followed by Roaring 20s in 2013.
The pair scored the top single “Heart Skips A Beat,” which also included Olly Murs, as well as other popular tracks like “When I Was A Youngster,” “Mama Do The Hump,” and “Down With The Trumpets.”
Since 2016, Jordan has released music under the stage names Wildhood and Al, the Native.
Previously this year, the artist revealed his struggles with self-injury and heartache in a raw, honest memoir, following his romance with Jade Thirlwall from Little Mix.
Apart from singing, the artist additionally offered a personal perspective on coping with Attention-deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), having earlier discussed his struggles with alcohol and substance abuse.
Jordan expressed that writing the book titled “Avoidance, Drugs, Heartbreak And Dogs” was his most challenging endeavor.

He’ll chronicle his journey to stardom with Rizzle Kicks, all the while privately wrestling personal demons in the form of severe self-harm habits and unhealthy coping strategies.
As a die-hard fan, I can hardly contain my excitement! The television adaptation of the beloved book that’s near and dear to my heart has been acquired by the esteemed production company, Watford & Essex. Known for masterfully bringing historical dramas like The White Queen and Life on Mars to life, I have no doubt they will do this story justice. I simply can’t wait to see it unfold on the small screen!
