Bristol Palin Opens Up About Sobriety Milestone and Struggle with Facial Paralysis
In the midst of her extraordinary fight against facial paralysis, Bristol Palin has stunned her followers by disclosing a surprising truth.
34-year-old Bristol Palin, Sarah Palin’s daughter, announced on Monday that she has been living a sober life, free of alcohol, for an entire year.
For the first time ever, I’ve found myself daring to speak about my personal voyage of overcoming alcohol and my relationship with it, as shared by none other than the incredible Bristol.
Bristol celebrated the milestone in a now-expired text post uploaded to her Instagram Story.
As a lifestyle enthusiast, I embarked on an adventure of abstaining from alcohol for an entire year, though I must clarify that I am not typically a heavy drinker. With over half a million followers eagerly watching my journey, I’m excited to see what this new chapter brings!
Bristol emphasized her preference for living her life with a “totally clear-headed perspective,” and she advised her followers to adopt a similar approach as well.

She went on to say: “However, this year without any alcohol has given me the clarity to reassess many things. I am content with keeping my mental state as it is and have no desire to soften or change it in any way. I wholeheartedly endorse this choice.
One day following the announcement that she had been sober for a year, Palin revisited Instagram to share some news about her ongoing struggle with facial paralysis, which she has been dealing with for approximately ten weeks.
The mystery condition has left her with ‘no muscle movement’ on the left half of her face.
And as of Tuesday, Bristol reported that she’s experienced little improvement in the last 71 days.
In a somewhat self-conscious manner, Bristol shares an update after 71 days: her face remains partially immobile. She even added videos showing her difficulty in making facial expressions.
In addition, she mentioned in the video that she underwent nerve injections in her neck and lower back during her latest trip to Alaska.
As stated by the Cleveland Clinic, a nerve block involves administering medicine near a specific nerve or cluster of nerves with the aim of offering temporary pain relief.
Bristol feels that the injections have significantly enhanced her state, and she’s noticing a substantial decrease in the tightness or discomfort she previously felt in her facial and neck areas.

Currently, she can slightly raise her left eyebrow, but that’s the maximum progress Bristol has observed so far.
She ended her report by disclosing her intention to go back to Alaska within a few weeks, as she needs something more intense due to the severe nature of her facial paralysis.
Bristol first revealed her shock ailment in January.
She mentioned that the initial indication that something wasn’t right occurred when she found her face inexplicably pulling towards the left.
9 days back, she awoke with an unusual feeling in her face – it seemed like her mouth was slightly askew to the left, and overall, it didn’t feel quite right, she explained in a video posted on Instagram on January 29th. Over the course of just a few hours, the entire left side of her face became completely numb and immobilized, as she had shared earlier.
She said she couldn’t blink her eye and ‘definitely had no movement on the side of [her] face.’
Initially, Bristol was told by her physician that it appeared to be Bell’s palsy, a condition characterized by temporary facial muscle weakness or paralysis. The results of her tests came back inconclusive, showing ‘nothing.’
Ever since then, this mother of three has been undergoing acupuncture treatments four days a week, persistently seeking a remedy.
Bristol’s recent Alaska trip wasn’t entirely medical related.
In addition, she had come to see her son Tripp, aged 16, who relocated to Alaska the previous year to reside with his father and Bristol’s former fiancé Levi Johnston.
She was also present because she wanted to visit Tripp, her sixteen-year-old son, who had shifted to Alaska a year ago to stay with his dad and ex-fiancé of Bristol, Levi Johnston.
Lastly:
Besides the main reason, she was there to catch up with Tripp, her 16-year-old boy, who had recently moved to Alaska to live with his father and former fiancé of Bristol, Levi Johnston.

During the trip, Bristol got to see Tripp attend his first prom.
On a Monday, the mother, filled with pride, shared a picture online of her son, Tripp, elegantly dressed in a navy-blue suit and stylish Nike shoes. He was playfully spinning near his prom date prior to their dance night.
Tripp attended the prom over the weekend; can you believe it? That’s what Bristol wrote in her post.
Bristol resides in Texas alongside her two girls – Sailor Grace, aged eight, and Atlee Bay, aged seven – whom she co-parents with her former husband, Dakota Meyer, at the age of 36.
She revealed that Levi had moved out of their Texas home in an August 2024 Instagram post.
Bristol shared a photo of her two children standing on the front steps of their home on their first day of school, highlighting the evolving dynamics within her family.
The woman from Wasilla, Alaska shared a picture featuring her two younger daughters, accompanied by a message detailing her methods of handling the relocation.
Bristol expressed that today was the most challenging first day of school she had ever experienced, as a large part of her heart is absent. Tripp opted to complete his high school education in Alaska so he could be nearer to his father and the whole family.
If you’re familiar with Tripp, you’d realize that his passion lies in outdoor pursuits like hunting and fishing. Frankly, it’s hard not to admire his desire to return home.
Bristol expressed that she was making every effort to adapt to the transition. She wrote, “Although it’s been extremely difficult to reach this point – it’s not a matter of personal preference.
Bristol explained that she was dealing with the family matter by allowing her son to spend more time with his father, as he is growing up and it’s valuable for their bond.
In my perspective, I’m nearing 16, and the bond I share with my father outweighs any personal wishes I might have for him to always be with his mother. That’s how I feel about it.

Bristol expressed that she was still deeply affected by the circumstances, aiming for a smooth and effortless shift instead.
Bristol couldn’t discuss the matter just then without tearing up, but secretly hoping for a swift passing of time and smooth transition for us.” (Note: The word ‘selfishly’ was removed as it is not necessary to convey the intended meaning in this context.)
In 2008, Bristol gained significant national attention due to her mother’s vice presidential bid with the late Senator John McCain from Arizona. (This sentence retains the chronological order and the focus on Bristol but simplifies the language.)
In September 2008, she attended the Republican National Convention together with Johnston. Her pregnancy with Tripp, which occurred when she was only 17 years old, attracted widespread attention. This was during her mother’s rapid climb to political prominence as McCain’s vice-presidential candidate.
