The historical crime drama Copper, which takes place in New York City during the 1860s amidst the American Civil War, is now available on a new streaming platform in the UK. Viewers can still watch it on Channel 4, and now also on U.
This crime drama, originally broadcast in 2012 and 2013, stars Tom Weston-Jones as Kevin ‘Corky’ Corcoran, a tough Irish-American police officer working in the dangerous Five Points area.
Corky is working hard to maintain peace in his community, but he’s also deeply focused on a personal search for answers about his wife, who is missing, and his daughter, who has passed away. It’s unclear whether he can successfully manage both his job and this difficult personal journey.

The series will star Weston-Jones alongside Kyle Schmid, Ato Essandoh, Donal Logue, Franka Potente, and Anastasia Griffith. Tessa Thompson, known now for her role as Valkyrie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, will also appear in a supporting role.
The TV show Copper ran for two seasons, with a total of 23 episodes, before being cancelled in 2013. There was talk of a possible movie continuation, but it doesn’t look like that will happen.

Although the historical crime series didn’t last long, it was generally well-received by both critics and viewers. It currently holds an 81% average approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes over its two seasons, and has an average rating of 7.5 out of 10 on IMDb based on more than 11,000 ratings.
One viewer called the show “brilliant,” praising its well-developed characters and immersive storytelling. They especially appreciated how realistically it portrayed the issues of the period it depicted, without shying away from difficult topics.

One viewer noted that the show doesn’t hold back when portraying the past. It tackles difficult subjects like racism, social class, bullying, and even the disturbing reality of child prostitution, leaving no topic unexplored, as evidenced by the series Copper.
Another viewer really loved the show’s characters, describing them as complex and intriguing. They appreciated the unpredictability, something they don’t often find on TV, and praised the show’s realistic and distinctive style.
Copper is available to stream via Channel 4 and U.
