“Brilliant new cases to crack”: What you need to know about the return of “stand out” hit British crime show
The popular British crime show, titled “Patience“, is gearing up for a comeback featuring fresh, intriguing mysteries to solve – here’s what you should be aware of before tuning in.
As a gamer, I’d say: I’m drawn into the gripping world of Channel 4’s crime series, where I step into the shoes of Patience Evans, an autistic Yorkshire Police Criminal Records Officer. DI Bea Metcalf, my partner in solving intricate murder mysteries, recognizes my exceptional problem-solving abilities and ropes me in to help crack cases that leave others baffled.
The series shares its foundation with the Franco-Belgian production, commonly recognized as “Astrid et Raphaëlle” but also known as “Astrid: Murder in Paris” in the UK. This show too revolves around an autistic woman who forms a partnership with a police officer to tackle and unravel various mysteries together.

The series, titled “Patience,” was developed by creator Matt Baker (known for “Hotel Portofino”) and premiered on a broadcasting station earlier in the year. It has set a new record as Channel 4’s largest drama of 2025 thus far, averaging around 4.2 million views.
Additionally, it received widespread acclaim from critics. The Observer labeled the show as exceptional, while The Daily Telegraph considered it a valuable enhancement to the crime drama genre.
Following its recent triumph, it was revealed back in May that a fresh eight-episode season is on the horizon. This upcoming season finds Patience adjusting to a new supervisor and starting a romantic connection with fellow coworker Elliot.
Purvis expressed great excitement upon announcing Series 2 of ‘Patience’, as the success and reception of Series 1 was overwhelming. He’s eager to revisit the world of ‘Patience’ because we have some intriguing fresh mysteries to solve,” – strap in!
Jo McGrath, Eagle Eye Drama’s Chief Creative Officer, commented, “We’re incredibly proud of how well Patience has done in the UK, and the fact that it’s been recommissioned for further episodes is a clear reflection of the exceptional acting and technical skills of our team, under the expert leadership of director Maarten Moerkerke.
The second series is set to deliver even more thrilling moments, ending with a tense hostage scenario and an unexpected family secret unveiled for the character named Patience.
For the second season, Amy Shindler (known for “My Family”), Beth Chalmers (“Mystic”), Rachel Smith (“Father Brown”), and Jacqui Honess-Martin (“Maternal”) will be penning the episodes. Additionally, Maarten Moerkerke from season 1, along with Raf Reyntjens (known for “Marie Antoinette”), will take on directing duties.
What will happen in Patience season 2?
In the summary for season 2, it is hinted that Patience will carry on her role within the Criminal Records Department of York Police City, having proven herself to be an indispensable team player. With her distinctive perspective, she’ll tackle various puzzling cases.
Yet, when a fresh chief, Detective Frankie Monroe, introduces a unique leadership approach, they find themselves struggling to maneuver through the differences in their styles.
In this show, love is blooming too, as Patience enters a romance with her coworker, Elliot. Meanwhile, a fresh look is given to the police department with the introduction of a new PR advisor, and they continue to unravel captivating mysteries in unique locations like York Minster.
Who is returning for Patience season 2?
Additionally, Jessica Hynes, known for her portrayal of Miss Austen, will also be joining the second season, playing the character of Detective Monroe.
Hynes expressed her excitement about being part of the “Patience” cast, taking on the role of DI Frankie Monroe. She fondly remembered enjoying the first season as a spectator and is now eager to collaborate with the team during the production of the second series, immersing herself in the heart of the action.
It seems like Fraser won’t reprise her role as Metcalf this season, as she’s not included in the list of season 2’s actors.
A number of cast returns from season 1 have been confirmed, including:
1. I, Tom Lewis, take on the role of Elliot Scott in Gentleman Jack.
