A third *Hocus Pocus* movie is happening, and Bette Midler has given fans the best news yet about its development. The story is reportedly fantastic, so let’s look at what we know about the upcoming film.
After the popular release of *Hocus Pocus 2* in 2022, Disney approved a third movie in June 2023. Development has been moving slowly, but the company continues to see it as a major project.
Fans worried a third movie was a long way off after Sarah Jessica Parker said in July there hadn’t been any progress, but Bette Midler has now clarified the situation.

The actor shared on *Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen* that the script they received was largely excellent, which initially made them very enthusiastic. They’re now working to determine the project’s overall direction, filming location, and budget.
This news follows the growing success of the second movie in the series, which is currently fourth in popularity on Disney Plus in the UK. Only Pixar’s *Elio* is performing better, currently ranking at number three (according to FlixPatrol).
The 1993 movie is still popular, currently sitting at number nine on the streaming service’s global film list, according to FlixPatrol.
Production on the third *Hocus Pocus* movie is starting to gain momentum, but Hannah Waddingham, who played Mother Witch, revealed in November 2023 that she hadn’t received an invitation to return for the sequel.
She laughed and said, “It’s funny, nobody’s actually asked me! I’m enjoying all the speculation, though, and I’m totally open to it. Honestly, the idea of returning would be incredible. I feel like I only just started to explore what I could do with the character – I barely made a dent.”
I think the Mother Witch could create a lot more wonderful chaos, and I’d love to see that happen. Specifically, I’d like to see Salvador Perez’s costume used again – it’s fantastic! And I really want to show off my cape; I insisted it not be altered, and it deserves another moment in the spotlight.
