Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy shows a Bridget “we hadn’t seen before”
Oh, Bridget Jones is back and I couldn’t be more thrilled! It’s been far too long since we last saw our beloved heroine stumbling through the trials and tribulations of modern dating and self-improvement. The first trailer for “Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy” has me positively giddy with anticipation.
In February, we’ll be seeing Bridget Jones again, and here’s a sneak peek with the debut trailer for “Bridget Jones: Crazy for Him Again“.
In approximately eight years since “Bridget Jones’s Baby,” we’ll catch up again with our beloved character, Bridget. Although it’s been confirmed that the upcoming film unfolds four years after Mark Darcy’s passing, there are other developments we might want to brace ourselves for.
At a sneak peek gathering in London on November 11th, filmmaker Michael Morris shared that instead of simply replicating Bridget for the upcoming film, his aim was to introduce fresh perspectives and ideas to this beloved character.
As a gamer, I’ve always admired the timeless charm of Bridget. Now, it’s time to bring her into the present, to redefine and reshape what Bridget means today.
Initially, Bridget found herself in her mid-thirties, single and residing in London, embodying the lifestyle common among individuals at the start of their thirties back then. Later on, there were two films that revisited her life. She remained in the same location, surrounded by the same circle of friends, and continued with the same job.
This moment offers the unique chance to know Bridget anew, in her current state. For the first time, she resides in a distinct area of London, a new environment. For the first time, she is part of a family. For the first time, she finds herself at a significantly different phase in her life.
As a director, I saw it as a chance to present a fresh take on Bridget’s character, a style perhaps unexplored before. This new perspective might offer an unusual view of her and London that wasn’t showcased in the previous Bridget films. Naturally, I adore the Bridget films, but this is a different era.
Regarding the latest film, Morris expressed his intention to create a “humorous exploration of loss,” focusing on how one copes after being part of an extraordinary love story that has come to an end.
I used to feel like I had my life mapped out, laughingly recalling the challenging times that are now behind me. But then, unexpectedly, the course of my journey took a turn. How do you adjust when your carefully laid plans suddenly shift?” – as a fan might express it.
This production is predominantly comedic, overflowing with the exuberance and vitality that Bridget embodies. However, life isn’t all laughter; it has its hardships too, which we can’t escape. These trials are inevitable for everyone, so we’re curious to see how Bridget navigates through them.
“What’s the secret to maintaining momentum with Bridget’s charm and exuberance? I aim to create a romantic comedy, not just a typical one, but a real-life, authentic rom-com instead.
It certainly fits with what Hugh Grant has been teasing about the new movie being “very, very sad” and also “extremely funny”.
We’ve just got a few more months to wait to find out exactly how sad it’ll make us.
The movie adaptation of “Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy” is set to hit theaters on Valentine’s Day, while UK cinema-goers can catch a sneak peek a day earlier on February 13th.
