Bridgerton’s Luke Thompson Explains His Bold Decision to Go Solo for Season 4!

Actor Luke Thompson, known for his work in Bridgerton, shares the reason behind his decision not to seek guidance from fellow cast members prior to accepting the main role in the fourth season.

In 2026, the fourth season of the popular Netflix series unfolds, focusing on the romantic tale between the character Benedict Bridgerton, portrayed by Luke, and a fresh leading actress, Sophie Baek, skillfully acted by Yerin Ha.

In the last three seasons, it was Phoebe Dynevor (as Daphne), Jonathan Bailey (as Anthony), and Luke Newton (as Colin) who stole the spotlight in their individual episodes, captivating viewers with their unfolding romantic tales.

Nevertheless, even with their extensive experience, Luke, aged 36, shared that he chose to blaze his own trail, shunning their advice as he yearned to embark on a journey that would be uniquely his own, creating his personal experiences.

At the Netflix program’s Season of Love fan event, Luke shared his thoughts with TopMob: “Being the main character requires a great deal from me, but it’s more like a privilege than a chore. It’s rewarding and thrilling to develop this character.

‘Leading the show was a very personal journey for me, and while I was inclined to engage with others, it was essentially my unique experience.’

Instead, let’s rephrase it like this: While on the stunning season four set for the first time, the actor chose to be a bit more anxious due to his feelings.

He shared: ‘Seeing the new set for the first time I was terrified but it is magical seeing it.

During my reading, a particular instant struck me, much like the hour of midnight that captivates Cinderella. My intention with this piece is to carry readers away on a magical journey.

The robust individual elaborated on the significance of dance sequences on-screen, stating, ‘I believe my dancing abilities are more than sufficient for the task at hand. Storytelling is key here; the most captivating moments occur during these dances. They serve as a means of storytelling themselves. Working with such an outstanding team makes it effortless.’

At the same occasion, Luke was accompanied by the 27-year-old Australian actress Yerin. She shared insights about her intricate character Sophie during the event.

She told TopMob: ‘It’s like an MRI scan. It’s suffocating and it’s complex.

In simpler terms, Sophie finds herself in a precarious situation as the household she works for carries significant importance for her. A small mistake in her role as a maid could lead to her dismissal.

During this time, it was revealed that Yerin, who had her role confirmed in September for season 4, joined the audition process relatively late.

As a devoted admirer, I’d say: “Though I was already familiar with Bridgerton, I received the audition notice rather late in the game, making it a two-week whirlwind of preparation.

As a diligent follower, here’s my account of the recent events: ‘I had a sudden need to dispatch a tape within an hour, followed by a callback the next day. At the moment, I was in South Korea, which led to a video call with Luke. Subsequently, I boarded a flight bound for London.’

At the dinner gathering and Q&A session, which took place at London’s Raffles within the OWO building, the actress entered with a cheerful mood and joined her fellow cast members.

On stage, she was accompanied by notable figures such as Golda Rosheuvel, known for her role as Queen Charlotte, and Jess Brownell, the mastermind behind the Bridgerton series.

In a new turn of events, Yerin is poised to make a significant mark in her acting career by portraying Benedict’s romantic interest. This role could very well be the major leap she’s been waiting for, following her appearances in lesser-known TV programs like ‘Halo’.

This month, filming started for the Netflix hit series, with fan favorite Jonathan Bailey reprising his role as the eldest son, Anthony Bridgerton.

In Season 4, we can anticipate an exploration that delves deeper into the class distinctions and power dynamics of the Regency era’s upstairs-downstairs society compared to previous seasons. This is largely due to Sophie’s lower-class background in contrast to Benedict and the Bridgerton family, as well as the themes of fairy tale romance and forbidden love that will be prevalent.

It has been verified that Benedict remains reluctant to tie the knot, even though both his older and younger siblings are contentedly married, according to Netflix.

Until a captivating woman steals Benedict’s focus at Violet Bridgerton’s (Ruth Gemmell) masked ball, that was the case.

Though Benedict recognizes his affectionate figure as just the Lady in Silver, she is, in fact, Sophie – a clever servant girl harboring her own mysteries and aspirations.

Prior to stepping into this season’s main part, Luke described his character, Benedict, as follows: ‘Benedict has often seemed somewhat aimless – or independent, depending on one’s perspective. However, he is now striving to discover a sense of stability within himself.’

Shonda Rhimes stated: ‘He’s an endearing fellow on a journey of self-discovery. He’s quite amusing and entertaining. I can’t wait for everyone to see him!’

The number of episodes for the upcoming season is confirmed as eight, but as of now, no specific release date has been set. It’s expected that production will last approximately eight months to complete filming.

As an ardent admirer pouring my thoughts out, I must say that, while we’re striving to speed up the release of new seasons, the process isn’t a walk in the park. It takes a whopping eight months just to film each season! Once filmed, they need to be meticulously edited, and afterwards, every single line needs to be dubbed into various languages to ensure everyone worldwide can enjoy the series. It’s quite a labor of love!

The composing process is quite prolonged, which means we’re essentially working at a rate of about two years. We’re attempting to expedite the process, but it looks like we’ll be maintaining a pace within this timeframe or slightly beyond.
