Luke Thompson, known for his role in Bridgerton, has recently shared why he prefers to stay off social media.
Luke Thompson, known for his role as the carefree Benedict Bridgerton on the Netflix series, doesn’t quite fit in with his castmates when it comes to using social media.
Nicola Coughlan, who plays Penelope Featherington, is very popular on Instagram with over 6.3 million followers. Jonathan Bailey, known for his role as Anthony Bridgerton and his work in Wicked, has an even larger following of 6.6 million.
Thompson, 37, who was trained by Rada, has admitted he stays away from social media to protect his own well-being.
He admits to often feeling disconnected and like he’s observing life rather than living it. Because of this, he believes social media would be incredibly addictive for him – he’d be constantly using it. He fears it would worsen his feelings of being an outsider and ultimately be harmful. He also worries about the negative impact social media has on our ability to focus and the many drawbacks it presents.
Even though actors today are often valued by how many followers they have on social media, Thompson prefers to keep his personal life private and doesn’t want to share it with the public.
Speaking at a theater event in London, he explained that staying off social media isn’t about being smart, but a personal preference. He finds it helps him enjoy his work as an actor. While acknowledging that social media is a reality for everyone, and that managing phone use is a challenge we all face, he admitted he struggles with it just as much as anyone else.
Social media often makes it seem like everyone either strongly approves or strongly disapproves of you, but it hides the fact that most people simply don’t have an opinion. This can create a distorted sense of self-importance, whether positive or negative.
Katya dons kinky boots for Strictly co-star Johannes
Katya Jones brought a touch of Paris to London’s Coliseum, looking stunning at the Kinky Boots musical gala over the weekend.
The 36-year-old Russian ballroom dancer made a stylish appearance, wearing knee-high boots, a red beret, a white blouse, and a denim skirt, to show her support for her ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ colleague, Johannes Radebe, who is performing in a show.
She described her outfit as having a distinctly Parisian, stylish vibe. Meanwhile, the lively performance benefited WaterAid and featured former footballer Lucas Radebe returning to his acclaimed role as the drag queen Lola from the popular musical.
Following his incredible two-hour and twenty-minute show, he admitted he needed a glass of prosecco to relax.
It’s been an incredible honor to perform on this famous stage as the energetic Lola, especially knowing we’re raising money to help others achieve their own dreams.
Arlene Phillips, a former judge on Strictly Come Dancing, has expressed her support for the dancers who were recently let go from the show.
Dame Arlene Phillips, 82, who was replaced by Alesha Dixon, then 30, on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’ in 2009, has expressed her sadness over similar situations. She says it’s heartbreaking when loyalty to a show isn’t rewarded, and that you need to be strong to cope with the realities of the entertainment industry.
Russell T Davies, the producer of Doctor Who, has responded to accusations of ‘wokeness’ by defining the term as simply caring about inclusivity, progress, and people.
The screenwriter questions whether today’s youth possess the same level of compassion as he does. While speaking about online influencers in Lille, France, and searching for positivity, he admits his views have changed. He used to believe each new generation would inspire hope, but now feels they’ve become overly extreme and unpleasant.
I once believed children held the key to a better future. But seeing how things are going now, and the pressures they face, I’m not very optimistic anymore.
Don’t put me in a box, warns Erin
In 2001, she made history as the first non-royal person featured on a first-class stamp. She’s also become a fashion icon, known for embodying a classic and elegant standard of beauty.
But Birmingham-born supermodel Erin O’Connor says that she’d rather not be called working class.
At the National Portrait Gallery, the 48-year-old spoke about the mixed reactions to her achievements. She explained that it often felt like people wanted to both celebrate her and diminish her accomplishments, suggesting this was done to fit her into a comfortable box for others.
Boy George sticks to the bus
Elton John performed at the wedding reception of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle at Windsor Castle, and then flew them to his home in the South of France using his private jet.
Boy George isn’t interested in a lavish lifestyle. He recently shared a story about riding the bus, where a woman recognized him. When she asked what he was doing on public transportation, he simply replied that he was on his way home.
The 64-year-old singer says that touring, even with its challenges, is essential for him. ‘Sometimes the travel is so tough, I think even Elton John wouldn’t be able to handle it, but I do,’ he explains. ‘I have to be out there experiencing the world – I can’t just stay isolated.’
Sir Cameron Mackintosh, the famous producer behind many West End shows, has a habit of unexpectedly visiting his eight theaters. Recently, the 79-year-old was particularly enthusiastic during a performance of Oliver! at the Gielgud Theatre, especially during the song ‘Consider Yourself’.
I heard from someone who was there that Sir Cameron was absolutely loving the show! They said he was already dancing and clapping during the performance, not even waiting for the curtain call. He was really getting into it!
