Actress Bessie Carter, best known for her role in Bridgerton, will be collaborating with her celebrated mother, the renowned Imelda Staunton, on a fresh endeavor.
In the upcoming revival of “Mrs Warren’s Profession,” a pair, one at 31 and the other at 69 years old, will take on the leading roles. This play by George Bernard Shaw, set in the late 1800s, tells the story of a woman who uncovers her mother’s secret involvement in running brothels.
As a passionate theater enthusiast, I couldn’t help but feel that the dawning of a new year presented the ideal opportunity to step back onto the stage for “Mrs Warren’s Profession.” This thought-provoking play continues to pose questions about women’s roles in society that remain as relevant today as they were when it was first written. The choices these characters make for survival serve as a poignant reflection of the struggles faced by women in their pursuit of personal and professional fulfillment.

2025 can’t come soon enough! I’m absolutely thrilled to be joining forces once more with my terrific friend and collaborator, Dominic Cooke, in the rehearsal room. And to make it even sweeter, my amazing daughter Bessie will also be there. What a delightful prospect for next year!
Even though Mrs. Warren’s Profession was written more than a century ago, it retains the ability to startle with its candid and thought-provoking portrayal of societal exploitation and the hypocritical norms that women face, as pointed out by Cooke.
Working with Imelda Staunton on both “Follies” and “Hello, Dolly!” has been an absolute joy, and I’m ecstatic about our initial collaboration on a stage play. What makes it even more exciting is sharing this experience with the incredibly gifted Bessie Carter.

Beyond that, I’m thrilled to be reconnecting with producer Sonia Friedman again after a gap of 15 years. I am eagerly looking forward to presenting this exceptional play along with our outstanding ensemble to London spectators come the spring season.
As a thrilled admirer, I can’t contain my excitement as I share that “Mrs Warren’s Profession” is set to be rekindled at the enchanting Garrick Theatre! Previews kick off on May 10, with the main event commencing on May 22. The show will run until August 16, offering ample opportunities for us all to witness this captivating performance.
Bridgerton seasons 1-3 are available to stream on Netflix, with season 4 coming in 2026.
