As a lifestyle commentator, I was so saddened to hear about what happened to Genevieve Chenneour, one of the stars of Bridgerton. She recently shared that she was attacked while she was in central London, and understandably, she became very emotional while recounting the experience. It’s a truly upsetting situation, and I’m sending her all my best wishes.
The 27-year-old actress, known for her role as Clara Livingston in the popular Netflix show, shared a heartfelt video on her Instagram Stories on Thursday.
Genevieve was shocked and upset after a man unexpectedly attacked her near Oxford Circus, just moments before she was scheduled for an audition.
This is the second time this year Genevieve has been attacked. Previously, she was injured and developed a severe fear of open spaces after fighting off someone who tried to steal her phone in a west London cafe.
In a video recorded in a calm room, Genevieve, visibly upset and crying, explained that the audition process had caused her to experience panic attacks again and made it difficult to prepare emotionally.
She explained that just five minutes before her audition, while walking near Oxford Circus, a man suddenly attacked her.

I was leaning against the wall, just about to go in for my audition. I had to pull myself together because I was really shaken up.
She explained that being attacked while using her phone was a frightening experience, and she now feels anxious being out in central London.
‘I’d just got my confidence up and was looking at moving back.’
She said her attacker was a Black man, around 50 years old and about 6 feet 3 inches tall. He was wearing dark clothing and a dark-colored hat.
Genevieve explained that she was unable to walk after the man suddenly attacked her. She said he had been staring at her before hitting her, and she was deeply shaken by the experience. Despite this, she’s trying to focus and prepare for an upcoming audition.
I’m so grateful they’ve given me this space – a room right above where the auditions are happening. It’s such a relief to have a quiet place to collect my thoughts and calm down before it’s my turn.
‘So I’m just going to take, like, half an hour, I think. I keep on having panic attacks.’
This latest event happened only a few months after Genevieve was previously attacked. She revealed this summer that a violent robbery in February had left her afraid to go out alone.

The actress got into a five-minute struggle with an 18-year-old who was trying to steal a phone inside a Kensington cafe. She described it as a fight involving four people.
After being hit, she lost consciousness for a moment. She later found out that a video of her protecting her phone, captured on CCTV, had become popular online without her permission.
Zacariah Boulares was sentenced to 22 months in jail in July after being convicted of assault and several thefts.
Genevieve explained that she was still frightened because she didn’t know who the man was who had reportedly threatened to stab her, saying, ‘It’s scary to think someone who threatened me is still out there.’
She explained that the experience had a deep and lasting psychological impact, causing her to develop severe agoraphobia and making it impossible for her to use buses or trains.
She’s left London and is now living with her mother, but still travels back to the city for work and events, often staying in hotels when she does.
Just hours after the frightening experience in February, Genevieve shared the video and cautioned other women to be careful.
People close to the actress have shared that she’s been diligently working on regaining her self-assurance following the attack in February.

Genevieve is a skilled boxer, certified by the Amateur Boxing Association (ABA), and has a lot of experience in sports.
Okay, so I recently found myself in a pretty unexpected situation – I actually had to defend myself against a thief! Luckily, I’ve been boxing for years, and that training really kicked in. But honestly, while it worked for me, I really want to emphasize that I don’t recommend anyone else try to fight back. Your safety is the absolute priority, and there are usually better, safer ways to handle a situation like that. Just be aware of your surroundings and focus on getting away if possible.
She admitted to Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard on the show This Morning that she wasn’t sure if she’d recommend the same thing to others.
Growing up with three brothers definitely helped me develop fast reflexes. I’m also a trained boxer and regularly do fight training for my work as an actor, so reacting quickly feels natural to me – it’s just instinct.
I initially assumed that was a reasonable response, but after reading comments online, I realized many people would simply hand over their phone.
