Bridgerton Season 5 Officially Confirms Francesca and Michaela’s Season

The show is introducing a new central romance next season. Following Benedict’s storyline in Season 4, Netflix has now revealed which character will be the focus of the next season’s love story.

Netflix revealed on March 24th that Season 5 of Bridgerton will focus on the story of Lady Francesca Stirling and Michaela Stirling. Production for the popular, romantic series – which is based on Julia Quinn’s novels – has already begun, marking another shift in focus for the show.

Bridgerton Season 5 Is Shaking Things Up Again

The historical drama has been very popular since it premiered in 2020, even launching a prequel series, Queen Charlotte: A Bridgerton Story. But the show hasn’t always followed the storyline of the books it’s based on.

Julia Quinn’s Bridgerton novels each focus on a different member of the Bridgerton family. The first two seasons of the Netflix series followed the books’ order: Season 1 told the love story of Daphne, the oldest daughter, and Simon, the Duke of Hastings. Then, Season 2 centered on Anthony, the eldest sibling, and his romance with Kate.

Season 3 took a different path than expected. The show originally planned to focus on Benedict’s romance with Sophie, but because Penelope’s secret identity as Lady Whistledown had been established early on, they decided to tell her story with Colin instead. They couldn’t delay Penelope’s reveal any longer, so Colin’s season took the place of Benedict’s.

What Happens in Bridgerton Season 5?

Season 5 will continue this trend. In Season 3, the show introduced Michaela Stirling, portrayed by Masali Baduza, and made a significant change from the original novels by reimagining the character of Michael as Michaela. Season 4 expanded the roles of Francesca and Michaela, especially after Francesca’s unexpected loss of her husband, John. Traditionally, the story would have focused on Eloise at this point, as she’s been actively avoiding marriage throughout the series.

The last season concluded with Michaela unexpectedly leaving Francesca while she was mourning. However, Michaela will be back – she’s been chosen as the new main character.

Netflix has given fans a sneak peek at Season 5 of Bridgerton, which will focus on Francesca, the quiet middle daughter of the Bridgerton family. The new season jumps ahead in time, finding Francesca two years after the death of her husband, John. She decides to look for a new husband, but her feelings become complicated when John’s cousin, Michaela, comes to London. Francesca will have to decide if she should follow her head or her heart.

The new season hints at a blossoming romance with the tagline, “Love begins again.” A brief video showed the actors, Dodd and Baduza, nearly touching hands while in character. Production for Season 5 is also already underway, starting earlier than previous seasons.
