Brian Wilson’s cause of death revealed days after Beach Boys icon’s shock passing aged 82

Two weeks following the death of music legend Brian Wilson, who is renowned as a member of The Beach Boys, the reason behind his demise has now been made public at the age of 82.

On Wednesday, June 11th, Wilson’s kids shared the sad news of his passing through an update on his official Instagram account. Exactly a year prior, it was revealed that he had been diagnosed with a condition akin to dementia, specifically a neurocognitive disorder.

According to a death certificate acquired by TMZ, Wilson passed away due to a condition known as cardiac-pulmonary arrest. This situation arises when the heart continues to beat, but the lungs cease to function, preventing the individual from receiving necessary oxygen.

Apart from his fatal condition, it’s worth noting that Wilson was battling multiple health problems when he passed away. These included sepsis, infections, and cystitis, as stated on his death certificate.

Connected elements involve conditions like neurodegenerative diseases, obstructive sleep apnea, persistent lung failure, and long-term kidney problems.

The artist known for “The God Only Knows” rose to prominence as the lead singer and main songwriter of the Beach Boys, where he also shared co-vocal duties.

In 1961, Wilson established The Beach Boys alongside his siblings Dennis and Carl Wilson, their relative Mike Love, and pal Al Jardine.

Initially, this musical group went by the name the Pendletones, but they made a big splash when they debuted in 1961 with the track “Surfin'”, which was penned by Brian Wilson and Mike Love.

Throughout the 1960s, this band grew incredibly popular in America, putting out hits such as Surfin’ Safari, Surfin’ U.S.A., and Surfer Girl.

During the 1960s, they became one of America’s most adored bands, producing albums like Surfin’ Safari, Surfin’ U.S.A., and Surfer Girl.

1966 saw the release of The Beach Boys’ hit “God Only Knows,” which was later hailed as ‘the best song ever composed’ by none other than legendary member of The Beatles, Paul McCartney.

Apart from their groundbreaking music, the band also created an alluring picture of laid-back California living, characterized by bright sunlight, swaying palm trees, and invigorating sea breezes.

Wilson’s association with the Beach Boys underwent significant changes starting in 1964, as he experienced a nervous breakdown, followed by two more incidents over the following years.

Instead of going on tour, he quickly stepped away but continued to oversee the band’s creative direction as a songwriter and producer, orchestrating their iconic album “Pet Sounds” in 1966 and lending his voice to several tracks as the lead singer.

Initially, Pet Sounds didn’t perform well financially, but over time it gained recognition as one of the greatest pop albums ever produced.

In early February, following the passing of his wife Melinda, Wilson’s relatives initiated proceedings to secure a conservatorship for him due to his diagnosis with a condition resembling dementia.

According to the documents acquired by The Blast, it was mentioned that he frequently spoke out with remarks that were either random, irrelevant, or nonsensical; he also struggled to concentrate for long periods and, despite this not being intentional, often disrupted situations due to a lack of maintaining the necessary decorum.

In Melinda’s absence, Wilson struggled to manage his daily necessities such as personal care, nutrition, clothing, and housing.

Previously, Wilson was observed in public on the 20th of April, 2024, appearing weak while using a wheelchair at a Los Angeles Lakers match.

The news of his demise sparked an emotional response from his admirers, with Elton John, Keith Richards, Ronnie Wood, Mick Fleetwood, Micky Dolenz, the Backstreet Boys, Randy Bachman, and John Lennon’s sons Julian Lennon and Sean Lennon among those expressing their sorrow.

Wilson is survived by his daughters Carnie (age 57) and Wendy (age 55), whom he had with his first spouse Marilyn, in addition to the five children he adopted with Melinda: Dakota Rose, Daria Rose, Delanie Rose, Dylan, and Dash.
