Brendan Fraser is back in a big way, and a new trailer reveals him playing Dwight D. Eisenhower in ‘Pressure,’ a thrilling World War II movie.
Oh my gosh, it was AMAZING seeing Brendan Fraser back! After being away for so long – like, a whole decade! – everyone just loved his performance in ‘The Whale’ from 2022. And he deserved the Oscar, seriously! It was such a comeback, and I was absolutely thrilled for him.
The film focuses on Dwight D. Eisenhower during the 72 hours before D-Day, as he develops the strategy for the Allied invasion.
Following the disastrous rehearsal for the Normandy landings, known as Exercise Tiger, Dwight D. Eisenhower was deeply troubled and anxious.
To avoid a disaster, he seeks help from James Stagg, a weather forecaster with the Royal Air Force (played by Andrew Scott), hoping Stagg can accurately predict the weather for D-Day.
Eisenhower, knowing this was the biggest sea invasion ever attempted and that the war – and countless lives – depended on its success, turned to Stagg and simply said, ‘I need a weather forecast.’
Pressure stars Damien Lewis as Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery and Kerry Condon as Kay Summersby, who served as a secretary to Eisenhower during the war.
Chris Messina, known for his role in The Mindy Project, will play Irving P. Krick, a meteorologist who contributed to the planning of D-Day.
I’m already hooked on this new movie! From the trailer, it’s clear Krick and Stagg are total opposites. Krick seems completely sure everything will be smooth sailing – he’s talking about ‘calm and sunny’ weather. But Stagg, being British, is much more cautious, warning everyone that they’re facing not one, but two really dangerous storms. It’s a fantastic setup, and I can’t wait to see how it plays out!
I remember reading accounts of that time, and it was incredibly tense. As the day drew nearer, I learned that Montgomery actually said something that really hit home: he believed cancelling D-Day would mean losing the entire war. It just shows how much pressure he was under, and how vital that operation was to everyone involved.
Montgomery believed that even a short delay would give the enemy time to prepare, resulting in a devastating attack where we would all be killed.
Eisenhower angrily questioned Stagg, demanding to know why he should rely on the scientist with the lives of 300,000 soldiers who might not return home to their families.
Stagg emphasizes that we need to acknowledge the truth, no matter how scary it is. He’s certain the storms he’s describing are genuine, and that the power of nature is a force to be reckoned with.
Pressure is the newest film from Australian director Anthony Maras. He previously directed the 2018 thriller Hotel Mumbai, which depicted the 2008 attacks in India and featured actors like Dev Patel, Armie Hammer, Jason Isaacs, and Anupam Kher.
Maras collaborated on the screenplay for ‘Pressure’ with David Haig, a British playwright who also wrote the original 2014 stage play the film is adapted from.
The movie will open in US theaters on May 29th, right after Memorial Day, and will be released in the UK on September 11th.
This new role comes as Brendan Fraser continues his comeback in Hollywood, a resurgence that started with his acclaimed performance in ‘The Whale,’ his first major film in almost ten years.
In Darren Aronofsky’s latest film, The Whale, Brendan Fraser gave a transformative performance as a 600-pound gay man who uses a wheelchair.
He claimed his career stalled after Philip Berk, a past president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association – the group that hosts the Golden Globes – sexually groped him in 2003.
Okay, so this guy, Phil Berk – he’s, like, 93 now! – is still trying to deny what Brendan Fraser said happened. Apparently, he was kicked out of the HFPA back in 2020 because he sent around this awful article calling Black Lives Matter a ‘racist hate group,’ can you believe it? And now he’s actually disputing Brendan’s story! It’s just… unbelievable. He’s still trying to defend himself, even after all this time!
After struggling with his career for years, Fraser unexpectedly found himself on stage at the 2023 Oscars, where he won the award for Best Actor for his performance in The Whale.
He spoke through tears, recalling how he began his career 30 years ago. He admitted it wasn’t easy, but he only fully understood the value of something he once took for granted after it was gone.
Since then, he’s been in films like Martin Scorsese’s Killers of the Flower Moon and a funny movie about cultural differences called Rental Family, which is set in Japan.
The first trailer for the movie ‘Pressure’ was released three months after it was announced that the actor is returning to the ‘Mummy’ film series for a fourth movie.
