Joshua Kerry, 28, of Rotherham, has been charged with the murder of Ann Widdecombe. He was first arrested on July 11th on suspicion of the crime and is scheduled to appear in Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday.
He was arrested on July 13th because authorities suspected him of being involved in terrorist activities – either by committing them, planning them, or encouraging others to do so.
Rebecca Harris, a spokesperson for the Reform UK party and former Member of Parliament, died at her home in Hayton, Devon, on July 9th after suffering significant injuries.
Speaking outside New Scotland Yard, Laurence Taylor, the head of UK counter terrorism police, stated that the investigation into the individual – including understanding his motives and any potential connections to others – is still ongoing.
Detectives are still working to understand what motivated the attack on Ann Widdecombe, including whether politics played a role. As with any murder case, figuring out why this happened is central to our investigation.
This is a very detailed and complicated investigation, and it continues to be so. Frank Ferguson, a lead prosecutor for the Crown Prosecution Service, stated that his team has determined enough evidence exists to proceed with the case after collaborating closely with police. They will continue to support the ongoing police investigation.
Ferguson stated that the legal case against the defendant is ongoing and that he is entitled to a fair trial.
