The new Danish thriller series, The Asset, premieres on Netflix October 27th and delves into the world of Denmark’s intelligence agency, PET, and the secrets within it. The six-episode show centers on Tea (Clara Dessau), a police trainee who goes undercover to investigate a criminal group. As she gets deeper into the mission, her sense of who she is and where her loyalties lie begins to crumble. The Asset isn’t just about spying; it’s a character-driven story that explores the personal toll of living a lie.
Okay, so from the get-go, The Asset really throws you into a world where nobody’s a clear hero. It’s not about finding some super-talented spy; they recruit Tea because she’s broken, a recovering addict with baggage. Basically, she’s disposable in their eyes. They send her in to get close to a dangerous man’s wife, and it’s fascinating – she’s used as a tool by the government, but also totally victimized by how they use her. The show feels like a really disturbing look at how easily institutions justify exploiting people when all they care about is control, and how that blurs the line between doing what’s right and just…using people.
Tea’s mission
I’m really intrigued by the character of Tea. She’s presented as someone trying to turn her life around, and she sees this new assignment as a way to do just that – a chance to prove she’s capable after a previous operation went wrong. Basically, she’s tasked with infiltrating the world of Miran, a criminal who pretends to be a respectable businessman. The catch? She has to become friends with his wife, Ashley. It’s heartbreaking because Ashley is stuck in a really controlling and dangerous situation with Miran, and it’s clear things are escalating.
I’ve noticed Tea starting to question everything she’s doing with PET. It began as a job, but seeing Ashley’s pain and being scared of Miran has really gotten to her. Every part of this operation is making her realize that what they’re doing isn’t always about what’s right – it feels like they care more about collecting proof than actually helping the people they’re watching. The more I see her connect with Ashley, the more it seems like this whole mission is just repeating the same kind of control issues Tea was sent in to fix.
The operation begins to collapse
Everything changes when Miran starts using Tea’s jewelry business to hide illegal money. PET agrees, claiming it’s a smart way to uncover the finances of those he’s investigating. However, this plan quickly leads to trouble. After Miran’s brother is killed, he becomes increasingly suspicious, and Tea’s secret identity is put at risk. Despite the danger she’s in, the agency insists Tea continue her undercover work, disregarding her well-being.
Tea is struggling to keep up her secret life as people begin to suspect something is wrong, and each lie pushes her further into isolation. Ashley starts to notice things don’t add up, and Miran relentlessly tests Tea’s allegiance. As Tea becomes more frantic to protect Ashley and their daughter Sofia, she realizes her organization views her as easily disposable. The operation isn’t just failing practically—it’s also taking a heavy toll on everyone involved, exposing the damaging effects of the intelligence world.

Do the police catch Miran?
Miran’s plan to smuggle diamonds with Ashley and Sofia ultimately leads to his ruin, fueled by both careful planning and a growing sense of desperation. When Tea learns of the operation, she begs her supervisors to intervene, but they refuse, determined to see it play out. Feeling abandoned, Tea decides to take action herself. She reveals her true identity as an undercover agent to Ashley, a confession that deeply hurts Ashley but also shatters the false sense of security she’d been living with.
Ashley’s confession is a turning point, leading her to help the team locate Miran’s secret funds. Ultimately, Tea convinces Miran to give himself up, promising it will keep his family safe. While the agency considers the case closed and a win, Tea feels like she’s failed. She achieved her goal, but lost all the personal relationships she’d formed along the way. Miran’s arrest brings the operation to an end, but also highlights the agency’s lack of concern for the emotional fallout.
Tea’s uncertain fate
Once the mission is over, PET tries to hire Tea full-time, impressed by her strength and how well she performs under pressure. However, deeply affected by the physical and emotional toll of the operation, Tea declines the offer, losing faith in the organization’s approach. While her decision appears to be a reclaiming of her independence, the story doesn’t end there. As Tea and her coworker Yasin drive away, they are attacked, and Tea is critically injured. The film ends abruptly, leaving her future uncertain.
Ashley’s final discovery
The story ends with Ashley, not Tea. She’s now living a peaceful life with her daughter, but starts to face the reality of her relationship with Miran. While going through her daughter Sofia’s things, she discovers a hidden key that unlocks a storage unit. Inside, she finds drugs, money, and documents the police never found—the last pieces of Miran’s secret world. Ashley now has real leverage, and the series leaves us wondering what she’ll do with it.
What struck me most about her reaction wasn’t relief or fear, but a really chilling sense of calculation. It strongly suggests this whole dangerous game isn’t over, and Ashley might be the one calling the shots now. The film refers to Tea as an ‘asset’ – someone used for infiltration – but by the end, that term flips. Ashley becomes the asset, the one with the power in a system that thrives on keeping secrets. It’s a deeply unsettling conclusion, making you wonder if the only way to survive in this world is to learn how to manipulate and control others, just like you were once controlled.
