Breaking Down All the It Ends With Us Drama

As a devoted admirer of captivating storytelling and the remarkable artists who bring them to life, I find myself intrigued by the enigma that seems to surround the cast of “It Ends With Us.” The movie, an adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s bestselling novel, promises to be a powerful piece of cinema, but it appears that off-screen drama might be stealing the limelight.

The upcoming theater release of the film based on Colleen Hoover’s novel “It Ends With Us” is set for this Friday. Amidst the excitement surrounding the premiere, some intriguing incidents both online and on the red carpet have sparked rumors about potential off-screen drama among the cast members.

In 2016, Hoover’s acclaimed novel found immense popularity. The narrative primarily revolves around the characters Lily and Ryle, portrayed by Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni in the film adaptation. Interestingly, both actors were not only cast in key roles but also took on co-executive producer duties, with Baldoni even assuming directorial responsibilities. Additionally, Jenny Slate, Brandon Sklenar, and Hasan Minhaj make notable appearances.

At film premieres this week, spectators observed that Baldoni appeared to keep a distance from his fellow stars, sparking speculation about potential tensions between him, Lively, and the rest of the cast. Here’s a look at the latest on the movie “It Ends With Us” and the rumored behind-the-scenes drama.

The controversy behind It Ends With Us

Colleen Hoover’s novel “It Ends With Us” has sparked discussion ever since its publication. The story within the book appears to be influenced by the author’s parents’ relationship and tackles the sensitive subject of intimate partner violence. Despite being a widely read book with over 300,000 reviews on Amazon, “It Ends With Us” has been a source of contention due to its portrayal of domestic abuse. The novel and subsequent film follow Lily’s experiences of emotional, physical, and sexual abuse at the hands of Ryle. However, after discovering that Lily is pregnant, Ryle decides to alter his ways and they eventually divorce while agreeing to co-parent their child jointly.

A significant number of readers expressed disapproval towards this decision and felt disappointed that the character chose to remain with him. Nevertheless, some readers justified Lily’s action as being realistic since escaping an abusive relationship immediately isn’t feasible for everyone in such situations.

In a 2023 interview with Today, Hoover justified the decision for the characters’ ending she had chosen. “Back then, there were limited options for women to escape such situations,” Hoover explained then, also sharing that her parents divorced when she was only two. “She managed to break free from that relationship. From that point on, I can only recall growing up with a mother who was incredibly strong and self-reliant.”

What’s happening with Justin Baldoni and Blake Lively?

Typically, at the premiere of big-screen movies, actors strike poses together on the red carpet. However, this wasn’t the scene at the New York premiere for It Ends With Us on Aug. 6, where Baldoni seemed to avoid taking photos with his co-stars. Instead, he was spotted only posing alongside his wife Emily Baldoni and friends. In contrast, Lively was captured in photographs with her own circle, which included her husband Ryan Reynolds, their mutual friend Hugh Jackman from Deadpool & Wolverine, her mother-in-law Tammy Reynolds, and co-star Brandon Sklenar. She was also pictured with co-stars Slate and Isabela Ferrer. The comments section of Baldoni’s Instagram is flooded with queries about his decision not to pose with Lively.

Online detectives additionally observed an intriguing detail: the main cast of “It Ends With Us,” including Ms. Hoover, do not return the favor by following Mr. Baldoni on Instagram. Conversely, it appears that Mr. Baldoni keeps tabs on each and every one of them. A TikToker even took the time to create a video showcasing this interesting dynamic.

In various instances, some online commentators have hinted at potential discrepancies or tensions. This speculation has been sparked by a red carpet interview with Slate, where she seemed evasive when asked about Baldoni, her director and co-star, in a question pertaining to their working relationship. Instead, she focused on the challenges of juggling multiple roles, implying an uneasy dynamic between them.

At the New York premiere, Liz Plank, who co-hosts Baldoni’s podcast, chose not to share photos of them together on Instagram. Instead, she commended Lively online, fueling further rumors and speculation.

The situation seems reminiscent of the drama surrounding the film “Don’t Worry Darling” from 2022. Some individuals online speculate that the escalating tension might be a clever marketing tactic, with Baldoni’s portrayal of a villainous and abusive character in the movie as a possible explanation for his limited involvement in promotional activities. However, there’s no concrete evidence to support this theory. Alternatively, it has been proposed that Lively and Baldoni may have had disagreements about creative aspects of the project.

Blake Lively’s outfits draw criticism

In the midst of all discussions, there’s a debate about Lily Lively’s wardrobe, both on-screen in the movie and off-screen during her press appearances. Stephanie Zacharek from TIME remarks on Lily’s seemingly mismatched outfits in the film, labeling it a “hippie-style patchwork wardrobe.” Some spectators have criticized Lively’s costumes as frumpy, but director Baldoni and costume designer Eric Daman remain unfazed. Baldoni told People magazine in May that he wasn’t concerned about it, while Daman suggested viewers should consider the clothing’s context within the scenes for a better understanding.

Lively’s outfits during the It Ends With Us press tour have garnered notice due to their unique, floral themes. Given her character in the movie is a florist, this choice seems fitting. The fashion account @Hautelemode commented that her looks on this tour were “Hot & Cold,” meaning they left some breathless with admiration and others feeling let down.

As a movie buff reminiscing about iconic fashion moments, let me tell you about my admiration for Britney Spears’ Versace gown from 2002 – a tribute to her, as I see her as the ultimate queen who inspired us all to shine, express ourselves, and share our tales. In an Instagram post, she acknowledged this dress as homage to her legendary status. However, opinions were divided online when it was revealed that the gown had been customized, reflecting ongoing debates among fans regarding her choices.
