Breaking Bonds: Human Nature’s Tierney Brothers Reveal Friendship Rift with Bandmates!
The brothers Andrew and Mike Tierney have offered fresh insights into the hidden rift that occurred within the renowned Australian musical group.
In an recent interview, the two siblings, forming half of one Australia’s top-tier musical duos, shared some news that might disappoint their admirers.
2021 marked the departure of Phil Blurton from the group, a move that came after over three decades with the established quartet.
At that moment, Phil informed Stellar that he had chosen a ‘domestic matter’ over joining his bandmates – Toby Allen and the brothers Michael and Andrew – for their Las Vegas residency.
However, on the most recent episode of The Jess Rowe Big Talk Show, the Tierney brothers admitted that their bond with their bandmates is primarily superficial.
Andrew and Mike have been singing with their Human Nature bandmates Toby and Phil since 1989.

Four teenagers attending Hurlstone Agricultural High School started performing together under the name 4Trax, eventually securing a contract with Sony Music in 1995.
1996 marked the release of Human Nature’s debut album “Telling Everybody,” which turned out to be an enormous success, eventually achieving triple platinum certification.
In the late 2000s, the band established themselves as a staple of the Las Vegas scene, performing extended engagements at establishments such as The Venetian and Imperial Palace hotels.
2019 saw me proudly inducted into the esteemed ARIA Hall of Fame, an honor I hold dear. Following this recognition, my musical journey continued as my band and I released an additional 12 studio albums, each one a testament to our passion for creating timeless music.
Even after sharing three decades of life and work, the brothers conveyed to Jess Rowe that the bond they shared with their bandmates had changed.
Did Jess inquire whether Mike and Andrew had faced challenges due to creative disagreements while collaborating as siblings?
‘Mike and I seem to be able to manage it better than we do with Dave and Phil,’ Andrew said.
‘What does that mean?’ Jess asked.

The performer shared that he can more easily dismiss critical remarks from his sibling as being detached or unrelated to him personally.
He indicated whether Mike was subtly antagonistic or simply telling him to hurry up, which was his interpretation.
I plan on responding to him again, yet it always feels impersonal. I can tell that Mike is going through a tough time. As for Toby and Phil, when they’re in a bad mood, things get a bit more emotional or personal.
‘It’s a weird dynamic. We started as friends and now the friendship is very surface level.’
In our interactions, it seems neither Toby nor Phil inquire about my daily experiences, my children, or even my wife’s well-being. Strangely enough, they never seem to initiate such conversations, and I find myself not doing the same for them either.
Host Jess inquired whether Andrew felt upset or melancholic by that statement, yet he maintained that perhaps the distinction between their professional and personal relationships could explain why the band remains active.
He explained, “That’s likely the reason we’ve stayed a team. We avoid handling each other’s messes. Instead, we share harmony through song and work effectively together.

Andrew attributed the break within the group to their relocation to Las Vegas fifteen years earlier, referring to it as a “significant shift” or “crucial moment”.
‘When we were just touring Australia we’d have these natural breaks,’ he explained.
Instead of the original, consider this rephrased version: “In Las Vegas, we had daily performances, and the guys were dealing with personal matters like family issues. It meant pushing through and performing regardless, and I believe that experience has shaped us.
Approximately 75% of the band Human Nature continues to reside in Las Vegas, where they regularly play their Motown hits multiple times a year.
Phil, however, moved back to Sydney with his family in 2021.
He clarified that the Covid-19 pandemic made him ponder deeply about his preferred location – a place where he feels comfortable and secure. For his family, that place turned out to be Australia.
‘I haven’t had time to think about what I’ll do next.’
He said to fans that if chances arise for them to perform in Australia, they’d come over, and we’d be a quartet once again, just like before. He gave this promise to ease their concerns.
Currently, Andrew and Mike are independently releasing their first album titled “The Soundtrack of My Life.
The two siblings, who got married and have kids, talked about jointly bringing up their children since their spouses are not only each other’s sisters but also met them during high school.
