This guide will help you master Gus in Brawl Stars. We’ll cover his attacks, stats, and special abilities, and show you how to build the most effective setup. Gus is a support character who excels at healing and shielding allies from a distance. Let’s dive right in and explore what makes Gus a strong brawler!
Brawl Stars Gus Guide – How To Unlock
To unlock Gus in Brawl Stars, players can:
- Unlock him on Trophy Road
- Unlock him from a Mega Box (0.5% chance)
- *Players may also unlock Gus from different rewards like Sushi Rolls or Angelic/Demonic Drops
You’ll probably get Gus by progressing on Trophy Road, but it might take a while. Earning enough trophies could require some effort, and you might need to play with different brawlers to get there.
Brawl Stars Gus Guide – Attacks & Stats Per Level
Gus’ main attack is called Loony Balloons. He shoots balloons at enemies from a distance. Each successful hit fills a meter by one-third. Once the meter is full, his next hit will create a spirit. Gus and his teammates can collect these spirits to heal themselves. He can create up to 10 spirits during a match, and they stay in play until someone collects them.
Gus’s Super, Spooky Boy, is a long-range attack that creates a shield for his allies. He can also activate the shield for himself with a simple button press. Though the shield doesn’t last forever, it offers valuable protection when you’re in a tight spot.
Gus’s Hypercharge, called Spooky Pop, releases a wave of spirits when he uses his Super. These spirits both heal teammates and harm enemies. The way the spirits move depends on whether Gus uses the ability on himself or on others.
Okay, so I checked out Gus’s stats – that’s as of May 2026, just so you know. Things can change in the game, so these numbers might not be exactly current, but here’s where he stands right now.

Brawl Stars Gus Guide – Which Star Powers & Gadgets are the best?
Overall, Gus has two gadgets:
- Kooky Popper – “Explode all uncollected spirits, dealing damage to nearby enemies.”
- Soul Switcher – “Gus loses a small percentage health but gains 100% spirit instantly.”
Additionally, Gus has two Star Powers:
- Health Bonanza – “Health gained from spirits are increased by 100%.”
- Spirit Animal – “Spooky increases the damage of a teammate for a brief moment”
Furthermore, Gus can use the following gears in battle:
- Speed
- Vision
- Health
- Shield
- Damage
- Gadget Cooldown
Brawl Stars Gus Guide – Recommended Star Power, Gadget, & Gear Setup
We suggest using Kooky Popper for gadgets. It deals significant damage and allows you to attack spirits that are out of range. While Soul Spirit does a small amount of damage to you, it fully restores your spirit energy. A single spirit boost isn’t usually game-changing, but a well-aimed Kooky Popper can hit multiple enemies.
When choosing a Star Power, both are solid options, but it really depends on your team. Spirit Animal is especially strong if your teammates deal a lot of damage. I prefer it because the shield and damage boost work well together. However, Health Bonanza is a great choice when you have a durable teammate like Frank who can really benefit from extra healing.
We suggest using Damage and Shield Gear for Gears. It’s a solid choice for most players because it boosts both your attack power and defense. If you frequently use Gus’ Kooky Popper, though, a Gadget Cooldown Gear might be a better fit.
Brawl Stars – Which Modes Should You Use Gus In (And Which Modes You Shouldn’t)
Hot Zone
Gus is a strong choice for Hot Zone because he attacks from a distance and supports his team. He can protect them with shields and heal them using his spirits. If he deploys his spirits within the Hot Zone, his teammates get a helpful boost when they move in.
Duo/Trio Showdown
Gus is a great support player because he excels at keeping his teammates safe. Although he’s not the fastest at destroying boxes, he can protect others with shields and strategically place Spirits across the map.
Bounty/Knockout/Wipeout
Gus is a strong pick for these game modes because he excels at fighting from a distance. He can charge up his special abilities, including the powerful Kooky Popper, and also protect his teammates with a shield. This makes him effective both as a support player and as someone who can deal damage.
Brawl Stars Gus Guide – What Mode(s) Should I NOT Use Gus In?
Heist
Gus doesn’t have a lot of immediate firepower, which makes him an average pick for Heist mode. He can help his team by supporting them and adding some extra damage with his Kooky Popper, but he won’t be able to crack the safe very quickly on his own.
Solo Showdown
A support-focused brawler isn’t very effective when playing solo. They’ll struggle to break open boxes quickly and won’t be able to defeat tough opponents on their own, making them a poor choice for this game mode.
