Brawl Stars Guide: Everything you need to know about Buffies

Story Highlights

  • Brawl Stars added Buffies as permanent upgrades that boost Gadgets, Star Powers, and Hypercharges instead of Power Level 12.
  • In this update, Colt, Shelly, Spike, Mortis, Frank, and Emz each received three Buffies, making a total of 18.

The latest Brawl Stars update, Update 65, has introduced a new feature called Buffies! These permanent powers were first shown in December 2025’s Brawl Talk and previewed in November. Players can now get them by using the Claw Machine in the game.

Brawl Stars Buffies Overview

Buffies were originally collectible keychains sold in Starr Park gift shops, but they became rare when the stores stopped receiving new ones. Now, thanks to a recent discovery by R-T, Buffies are available again – and they’re not just collectibles anymore! They’ve become a new way to boost the strength and skills of Brawlers.

Okay, seriously, Buffies are the BEST Brawlidays gift, both to give and to get! I’m already planning to collect them all – you can unlock even more power for your favorite Brawlers, and that’s SO exciting! Yay!

Brawl Stars recently added ‘Buffies’ instead of the previously planned Power Level 12. These Buffies permanently improve your Brawler’s Gadgets, Star Powers, and Hypercharges. Currently, only Colt, Shelly, Spike, Mortis, Frank, and Emz have received Buffies, with three available for each of those Brawlers.

Once a Brawler unlocks their Buffies during a match, their powerful Epic and Mythic gear will be taken away. They’ll then be adjusted to match their new abilities, meaning you’ll need to learn how to play them effectively all over again.

How to obtain Buffies in Brawl Stars

All the Brawlers I talked about have received a Gadget, a Super, and a Hyper Buff. You can unlock these from the in-game Claw Machine, and once unlocked, they’re permanent! They improve both Star Powers and Gadgets, and you can use all three Buffs simultaneously.

To unlock this ability, you’ll need to reach 1000 Trophies if you haven’t already. Luckily, you’ll receive your first Buffie completely free! After that, you can get more Buffies from the Claw Machine. Each grab costs 1000 Coins and 2000 Power Points, and this update includes 18 different Buffies to collect, with each grab guaranteeing you one.

Once you’ve collected all 18 Buffies, you’ll unlock the exclusive Bling Buffies – special, rare cosmetic skins. Alternatively, if you prefer, you can buy Gadget Buffie for 149 Gems, Star Buffie for 179 Gems, or Hyper Buffie for 199 Gems.

How these Buffies actually work

Let’s use Colt as an example to explain how Buffies work. If you unlock his Buffie from the Claw Machine, it will improve both of his Gadgets. With Speedloader, each hit will steal ammo from the enemy, and with Silver Bullet, you’ll be able to fire a bigger, more powerful bullet.

If you unlock Shelly’s Gadget Buffie and her Fast Forward ability, you’ll be invincible while dashing. Her Shell Shock Gadget will also slow down enemies with each attack, and the slow effect will last longer the more you hit them. You can learn more about all the Brawlers in the Update 65 blog post.
