Brandon Sanderson’s TTRPG bigger than Stormlight, covers all of Cosmere

As a die-hard fan who has spent countless hours immersed in Brandon Sanderson’s intricate Cosmere universe, I can hardly contain my excitement over the announcement of the Cosmere Roleplaying Game (RPG). The prospect of venturing into the Stormlight and Mistborn settings, not just one but together, is a dream come true.

The crowdfunding for author Brandon Sanderson’s debut tabletop role-playing game, titled “The Stormlight Roleplaying Game,” launched on August 6, but not as originally anticipated. Rather than a single TTRPG set within one of his fictional worlds, the publisher Brotherwise Games is in fact developing not one, but two games. The recently announced “Cosmere Roleplaying Game” will incorporate content from both his Stormlight and Mistborn settings, and there has been an overwhelming response from long-term fans eager to contribute to its production.

As a gaming enthusiast, let me share some exciting news! In a recent announcement, Brotherwise Games and Dragonsteel revealed that the Stormlight Roleplaying Game has been the Cosmere Roleplaying Game in disguise. This means, from now on, you can expect to explore not only the Stormlight and Mistborn settings but also embark on epic adventures that traverse various worlds and realms in the Cosmere universe!

Similar to how Sanderson’s earlier project for four hidden novels, which brought in approximately $42 million in 2022, the Cosmere RPG will follow a phased rollout. Anticipated for September 2025 are three books based on the Stormlight setting, with another three Mistborn books due by 2026. The basic digital package starts at $60, while the comprehensive game master’s edition is priced at $295.

For an RPG, the price tag is relatively steep, even on Kickstarter. Yet, it hasn’t dampened the enthusiasm of the franchise’s most loyal supporters. As I write this, the campaign has already surpassed $1.5 million and is rapidly approaching being one of the biggest crowdfunding projects of the year.
