Brandon Blackstock, who gained fame due to his marriage and high-profile divorce with Kelly Clarkson, passed away at the age of 48 following a battle with cancer.

Official reports confirm that Blackstock had been fighting cancer for over three years, as stated by his family last week in a public announcement made through The Times and social media. The type of cancer he battled was melanoma, a form of skin cancer that primarily targets cells responsible for producing skin pigment, as explained by the Mayo Clinic. However, specific details about his condition were not disclosed in the statement.

Blackstock’s family confirmed his passing shortly following Clarkson’s decision to delay four August performances during her Studio Sessions residency in Las Vegas due to personal matters. In a heartfelt Instagram post, she explained that over the past year, her children’s father had been unwell, and at this point, she needed to focus completely on them.

In 2013, Clarkson tied the knot with Blackstock, but they parted ways in 2020, officially ending their union in 2022. Together, they have a daughter and a son. Additionally, Blackstock has two children from his previous marriage.

Following her ex-husband’s passing, clips of Clarkson emotionally tearing up during a performance in Las Vegas on July 26 reemerged online. In this video, the former “American Idol” contestant reflects upon the modifications made to her song “Piece by Piece,” a composition initially inspired by Blackstock.

Due to Brandon Blackstock’s illness, Clarkson has decided to delay the remaining shows of her August residency in Las Vegas to focus completely on taking care of her children and being there for them during this time.

In a heartfelt moment as a movie reviewer, I found myself choked up while discussing the revamped rendition of a beloved number. “I’m truly struggling to maintain my composure,” I admitted, later dabbing away tears as the audience erupted in applause.

“Screw it, let’s just sing it. This is ‘Piece by Piece,’” she says, carrying on.

Clarkson’s rescheduled August performances remain uncertain as of now, however, her website indicates she has concerts lined up for November. The 18-show residency at Caesars Palace’s Colosseum, initially announced in February and commencing on the Fourth of July, is currently underway.
