Brand new Aussie music festival announces 2026 tour dates… but can it save the country’s failing industry?

A popular metalcore group, Parkway Drive, has unveiled plans for a brand-new music festival, which might just be the long-awaited major event that the live music world has been eagerly anticipating.

The Park Waves Festival is set to arrive in Australia in 2026, promising an array of musicians to perform in cities nationwide.

From February through March, the heavy metal concert tour will circle around the country, starting first in Perth, followed by Adelaide, multiple venues in Victoria and New South Wales, Byron Bay, and finally wrapping up at Sandstone Point, Queensland.

Last year, Parkway Drive experimented with their festival style by bringing Fit For A King and Thy Art Is Murder to Germany for a night filled with headbanging music at a venue in Germany. Notably, they also performed at a formal event titled ‘black tie’ at the Sydney Opera House more recently.

Over the past year, numerous well-liked music festivals have unfortunately had to cancel or postpone their events, making Listen Out the most recent example in Australia’s shrinking live music landscape.

For the year 2025, the annual Australian festival that started in Sydney, Perth, Melbourne, and Brisbane since September 2013 will not take place.

The team behind the event shared the sad news in an Instagram post on Monday.

‘Okay… deep breath. This one’s tough. Listen Out won’t be going ahead this year,’ the post read.

Our aim has consistently been to create a unique space, one that mirrors the essence and dynamism of our community, with a roster that resonates deeply with you. The connection here is reciprocal; it’s not just the artists giving their energy, but also receiving it from you.

Over the past few years, things have been quite challenging. As a result, Listen Out will be taking a break, but rest assured, we are not disappearing.

The festival is going to transform into an event series known as Listen Out Presents. This means we’ll be hosting unique, well-planned parties at exceptional venues across Australia throughout the entire year.

‘We’re sticking around, but with some changes. Enjoying the good moments together, albeit differently. For the moment, there’s no more to share.’

The initial event on the list is scheduled soon in Perth, showcasing a selection of top-tier global artists.

Among numerous events, Listen Out has been among those that have been postponed or canceled due to a series of recent cancellations over the past year.

The R’n’B event known as Souled Out had to be called off in February, meaning that the performances scheduled for Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane were unfortunately no longer happening.

Victorian event The Esoteric Psychedelic Circus Festival was also canned.

Similarly, it was announced earlier this year that Splendour in the Grass won’t take place in 2025.
