Brad Pitt’s ‘World War Z’ Returns as an Exciting VR Zombie Experience
2013 was a standout year for Brad Pitt when the movie “World War Z” hit theaters. The film raked in over half a billion dollars at the box office despite a $190 million budget, even though its Rotten Tomatoes score wasn’t the highest. There were plans for a “World War Z 2,” but apparently, discussions about a sequel have been temporarily halted or even called off due to financial concerns. Fervent fans have come up with trailer ideas, posters, and more, eagerly anticipating another adventure featuring former United Nations investigator Gerry Lane. Now, their wish is partially granted as “World War Z VR” will debut in August.
Fans who have been eagerly anticipating news about their favorite action horror film haven’t received an update yet, but there is some exciting news on the horizon. Over the years, Virtual Reality (VR) headsets have become increasingly popular for immersive horror experiences. Remember getting scared out of your wits by Pennywise during the IT VR Experience? Now, Saber Interactive is offering a new opportunity to face off against zombies with World War Z VR. This interactive experience will launch on August 12, 2025, for both SteamVR and Meta Quest. Users can expect to engage in intense battles against massive swarms of up to 200 undead across three real-life locations: New York City, Tokyo, and Marseille.
Players can select from numerous operators, customize weapons and bonuses, all while navigating exhilarating single-player missions. Additional features include an AI squad that’s pre-assigned, the best zombie adventure as they adapt to their environment and your strategy, along with other exciting elements. For those who got frustrated when Gerry Lane made a mistake, there are three difficulty levels to test your skills in defeating zombies. In the movie World War Z, Gerry Lane, his wife Karin, and their daughters Rachel and Connie find themselves trapped in Philadelphia traffic when the world is overrun by zombies. Lane, a former UN investigator, travels globally in search of a solution to a sudden zombie outbreak.
Alongside Brad Pitt, the cast features Mireille Enos as Gerry’s wife Karin (a loving and supportive figure), Daniella Kertesz as Segen (a soldier whom Gerry encounters during his mission), James Badge Dale as Captain Speke (an U.S. Army Ranger), David Morse as a retired CIA agent, Fana Mokoena as Thierry Umutoni (Gerry’s former superior), David Andrews as a U.S. Navy captain, and others. The movie is helmed by director Marc Foster, with the screenplay penned by Matthew Michael Carnahan, Drew Goddard, and Damon Lindelof. It’s an adaptation of Max Brooks’ 2006 novel bearing the same title.
A ‘World War Z’ Video Game Was Released In 2019
Six years following its successful run, Saber Interactive unveiled the video game adaptation of World War Z in 2019. This was available for purchase on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One starting April 16, 2019. Two years later, a Nintendo Switch version hit the market on November 2, 2021. The game is a third-person shooter that draws inspiration from the novel and shares the universe of the 2013 movie. It focuses on a band of four brave survivors who have survived a zombie apocalypse.
