Brad Pitt’s Hilarious Comm Fail While Filming F1: You Won’t Believe What Happened Next!
Ever since the debut of F1 within the 2025 movie calendar, the Brad Pitt-led blockbuster has generated significant hype. During its opening weekend, the movie performed well at the box office and attracted a large audience that extended beyond racing enthusiasts. Moreover, much acclaim has been heaped on the filmmaking process itself, with the lead actors actually operating Formula 1 vehicles during production. Now, Pitt is casually revealing an on-the-spot story about how he filmed a driving scene after discovering that communication had broken down.
Pitt’s cool (and scary-sounding) anecdote was shared during a conversation with EW, which was posted to the outlet’s Instagram account. The chat involved the film’s principal cast members: Pitt, Kerry Condon, Damson Idris and Javier Bardem. The Fight Club actor recalled the first time they were filming on the track, and the cameras had just started rolling when the communication system malfunctioned. So he realized in real time, while driving Lando Norris’ real car, as he flew down the racetrack:
It’s the first time, it’s time to go. And we take off. My comms went out. I had no comms.
I’m feeling goosebumps all over! Driving a speedy car without any contact with the crew just doesn’t seem appealing to me. As Simon Cowell would say, “I pass on that.” Now, Brad Pitt is a seasoned pro and has handled complex machinery before. Yet, it seems like even he got caught off guard when the incident took place.
Regardless, I found myself taking on the task – one that required me to execute it in a genuine stadium with enthusiastic race fans echoing their support from the stands (not exactly low-pressure situation!). Yet, despite lacking any external guidance during the racing sequence, Brad Pitt remained self-assured enough to carry on. As he shared during our cast interview, there was a particular reason behind his unwavering optimism:
For the very first time, I found myself on the race track amidst the enthusiastic crowd, capturing the action, without any communication devices at hand. However, thanks to our meticulous planning, we were able to improvise flawlessly. As if prompted by an unseen director, I exclaimed, “Are you ready to roll then?

I was profoundly affected by the crash scenes in F1, and my awe has grown even deeper upon learning how the director devised those ideas.
It seems crazy to improvise such an action scene, especially when it comes to Brad Pitt. After all, intricate car chase sequences in top-notch racing movies require careful planning, synchronization, and constant dialogue. If these components don’t work together flawlessly, problems can arise. I’m relieved that he managed to complete the sequence without injury, as his dedication as an actor is well-known, which is why he commands high salaries.
Following Pitt’s performance in the story, which left everyone breathless (including me), Javier Bardem inquired whether Pitt had acted throughout it as well. In fact, Pitt did perform the entire piece, demonstrating his ability to recall the choreography flawlessly. Given Pitt’s exceptional acting in F1, I can’t help but ponder what might have transpired if Pitt had been cast in Ford v Ferrari. I would be thrilled to see a sequel featuring him in this latest racing film, and I could only hope that there would be no more technical glitches.
