Brad Pitt’s $20M Legal Nightmare: Homeowners Demand Justice Over Defective Katrina Homes!

Brad Pitt has hit a snag in the $20.5 million lawsuit against his Make it Right Project.

61-year-old Pitt embarked on this venture following the destructive Hurricane Katrina in 2005, which struck New Orleans. His objective was to construct eco-friendly homes as replacements for those that had been submerged under water.

He invested approximately $12 million into his Make It Right Project for constructing 150 eco-friendly homes. However, close to two decades after the project, the homeowners have united to file a collective lawsuit against him and his organization.

Many of the homes have developed mold problems and other serious issues. 

In simple terms, the lawyers representing the homeowners, known as Ron Austin Law, secured a significant triumph when the court ordered Make It Right to disclose crucial documents during the evidence-gathering phase (discovery stage).

According to The Sun, the actor from Inglorious Basterds has been attempting to avoid being questioned, arguing that it conflicts with his packed filming commitments.

Brad was on the list of witnesses but his legal team filed a motion to avoid being deposed.

In simpler terms, they asserted that there was no useful or pertinent data for the case from the actor in the movie “Meet Joe Black.

The statement suggests that Mr. Pitt’s movie production timetable raises issues that go beyond just his personal calendar and focus.

Primarily, if Mr. Pitt doesn’t participate in film production during a court hearing, it might lead to significant scheduling problems for the studio, potentially resulting in both legal and financial complications.

Furthermore, since it’s expected that Mr. Pitt will be overseas in Europe for several months ahead, any face-to-face testimony could result in expensive and time-consuming travels.

The motion was submitted back in April 2024, but it only recently surfaced. Unfortunately, by June, the judge had deemed the motion irrelevant because the investigation phase hadn’t wrapped up yet.

Brad’s Make It Right Project constructed 109 homes in the Lower Ninth Ward of New Orleans, a region that was severely affected by Hurricane Katrina.

In the heart of New Orleans’ most destitute quarters, those houses were designed to be our guardian angels, offering solace and refuge to us, who had lost it all in the Big Easy.

As a devoted follower, I must share that my household has been grappling with a legal dispute. The crux of our case is that several homes, including mine, were not constructed appropriately. Over the years, we’ve been battling to persuade Pitt’s foundation to shoulder the substantial costs of extensive repairs.

As a lifestyle expert, I find myself embroiled in a situation where a certain organization is facing allegations about the botched execution of their grand construction endeavor. The complaint asserts that the structure was not built to specification, using subpar materials, as suggested by the lawsuit.

In 2018, Lloyd Francis and Jennifer Decuir initiated the initial legal action, which was later transferred to a federal court.

The organization is accused of fraud, breach of contract, and unfair trade practices.

Previously, homeowners have expressed concerns about potentially harmful mold and elevated carbon dioxide concentrations within their homes, asserting that these conditions led to various health problems for them.

A lawyer connected to the case shared with The Sun, “Clearly, this is an extremely challenging predicament for anyone whose residence was affected by these events.

I’ve heard this heart-wrenching tale multiple times before, but I really hope the ongoing legal action forces those in charge of this project to be held accountable.

2022 saw Global Green, a charitable organization backed by celebrities, reach a $20.5 million settlement in connection with Make It Right and Brad (Brad being the individual’s name).

Since then, the charity found itself in a predicament when it couldn’t afford the settlement. It was believed that they were hoping Brad might somehow provide financial assistance.

Pitt has said that he never approved of the Global Green deal. 

2023 saw a spokesperson for Brad confirm to The Hollywood Reporter that, since Brad had previously backed Global Green, they were intrigued by the proposition put forth by Global Green when they mentioned securing “$20.5M in funding” from their generous donors.

‘Global Green has declared that they’ve secured the necessary funds, which they intend to utilize in settling all disputes within the current legal case, with the aim of helping homeowners involved.’
