Brad Crane: ‘I Thought My Wife Was Going to Die in the Helicopter’

Brad Crane discussed a critical health incident that nearly cost the life of his spouse, Stacie Marmion.

The pair, who fell in love during the 2009 season of Farmer Wants a Wife, have become one of the most celebrated successes of the reality show, as they now proudly raise three children together.

In an interview with Woman’s Day, a 45-year-old named Brad shared a heartbreaking story. He said that everything fell apart for him in the year 2023, when suddenly, at the age of 42, his partner Stacie suffered an unexpected collapse.

The incident occurred just prior to daughter Darcie, 12, competing in a zone athletics carnival.

In a critical situation, Brad had no choice but to jump into action and administer CPR to Stacie. It was discovered later that she had experienced a brain aneurysm prior to being transported by air ambulance to the hospital.

The celebrity farmer said that he was told to expect the worst.

I thought she was going to die in the helicopter,’ he said.

As a connoisseur of lifestyle, I embarked on a journey by personally hiring a private aircraft and soaring skies bound for the vibrant city of Sydney. Upon arrival, the medical team worked tirelessly to address my companion’s condition. With a heavy heart, they shared grim news, warning me to brace myself as her life would no longer be the same. She would lose the ability to walk and communicate, effectively robbing her of the quality of existence she once knew.

When Stacie reached the hospital, they put her into a medically-induced coma, which was anticipated to continue for about ten weeks.

However, Stacie woke up from her coma later that day.

Brad added that Stacie’s team of neurosurgeons were shocked at Stacie’s miraculous recovery.

The neurosurgeons were taken aback once more as they observed Stacie standing beside her hospital bed, despite their expectation that she wouldn’t be able to stand for ten weeks.

Brad stated, “Two days post-surgery, she began taking a few steps, leaving the doctors utterly astonished.

I can’t help but feel that some divine intervention must have been at play when I heard, ‘It’s medically improbable, it’s nothing short of a miracle! It seems as if someone has been watching over you!’

The farmer who raises cows also mentioned that the difficult experience had helped him value each instant spent with his loved ones.

‘It certainly made us reassess a few things,’ he said.

‘Sometimes you get so caught up on the little things and now we realise life is a blessing.

‘We have each other and three wonderful, healthy kids. We’re pretty lucky. We’re blessed.’

Brad and Stacie discovered their romance during the 2009 season of Farmer Wants a Wife, and they got engaged only half a year following the show’s conclusion.

A year later, they got married, and since then, they’ve had three girls: Darcie who is 12, Bobbie at 10 years old, and Frankie who is 7.

In 2019, Brad shared with Woman’s Day that he finds the most joy simply by being with Stacie and considers her his closest friend.

Occasionally, we find ourselves sharing a bed with one, two, or sometimes even three children upon waking up.

Over the past few years, due to consecutive droughts, the family had no choice but to momentarily halt their farming operations, and unfortunately, Brad had to euthanize many of their livestock as a result.

He mentioned that there could be a rain shower ahead, but the livestock seemed quite feeble – they’d suddenly collapse and it was impossible to make them stand again.

‘I honestly think I put down 40 cattle. They could have been worth $1500 each. That’s $60,000.’

In an interview with Mamamia last October, Stacie openly acknowledged that the drought left them reeling, yet they felt compelled to persevere for their children’s sake.

She mentioned that they leveraged Brad’s electrical expertise to establish a contracting firm, and currently, they employ six people there.

As I reflect on the situation, our current stance has undeniably improved our standing. The elders, these agricultural stalwarts who’ve tended their lands for countless generations, unfortunately find themselves in a predicament, bereft of resources.

Brad expressed: “One day I understood, ‘With three beautiful daughters and a stunning wife, life shouldn’t be this taxing.’ Things were becoming excessively stressful.
