Boyzone has revealed details about disagreements they had behind the scenes, including arguments about which songs to perform before going on stage.
Boyzone, the popular Irish group featuring Ronan Keating, Keith Duffy, Mikey Graham, Shane Lynch, and the late Stephen Gately, first became famous in the early 1990s.
Lead singer Stephen died in 2009 at the age of 33 as a result of a congenital heart defect.
After briefly reuniting for a tour in 2019, the band will perform two final concerts at London’s Emirates Stadium next June. This announcement follows the release of their documentary on Sky earlier this year.
Okay, so it’s been six years since they first blew up, and they’re STILL working so hard to make everything perfect for us – seriously, they’re obsessed with the show, just like me! But get this – they just let slip that things weren’t always smooth sailing behind the scenes. Apparently, there was some tension backstage before! I’m dying to know all the details, honestly. It just makes me love them even MORE knowing they’ve overcome stuff to get where they are now!
The singers recently revealed that they’ve always had disagreements backstage before each concert, specifically about which song to start with.

Ronan, 48, told Heat magazine that he and his bandmates always disagree about which song should be played in the arena right before they start performing.
When asked if the first song for the project has been chosen, the singer of ‘When You Say Nothing At All’ confirmed that it hasn’t been decided yet.
He added that the opening track ‘won’t be decided until the night before’.
I remember when they were at their peak, releasing all those amazing, classic songs like ‘No Matter What,’ ‘Picture Of You,’ and ‘Keys To My Life.’ What always struck me was that the band members always shared just one big dressing room – it was a really close-knit vibe, you could tell!
Trouble started brewing during their 2019 farewell tour when Ronan, having already established a successful solo career, began pursuing his own separate path.
Keith, 51, explained that the band always shared a single dressing room, even when playing many shows in a row. However, when they returned to perform at the Palladium, a larger dressing room was needed because Ronan was part of the group.
‘That created a separation between us.’
He continued by explaining that there were no hard feelings, though the situation left them feeling isolated. When they said they were finished, they truly meant it – they didn’t want to revisit the issue.

‘There was no word of anything else until the documentary.’
Oh my gosh, you guys, I finally watched the Boyzone documentary, ‘No Matter What,’ on Sky Documentaries in January, and it was EVERYTHING! It wasn’t just a recap of their amazing career, it really got inside each of the boys’ heads – you actually heard from each one of them about what it was really like. It was so personal and raw, I was completely hooked!
The sentiment Keith expressed was also reflected in the show, as Ronan explained: ‘While some things were painful, I could see the reasoning behind them.’
The performers are hoping everything goes smoothly in their last two shows. Keith, in particular, is anxious, remembering a scary accident where he fell 12 feet.
Just before their next song, a section of the stage suddenly dropped, creating a twenty-foot gap. The band’s stage manager had cautioned them not to step back too quickly, as the opening was dangerous and easily missed.
However, Keith said he got ‘carried away’ as the crowds were screaming and ‘strutted’ backwards.
He quipped: ‘Now you see me, now you don’t! Whack, down I went, 12ft.’

Following the positive reception to their recent documentary, Sky cameras have begun filming Boyzone for a new special.
Someone who knows the situation shared with The Sun in September that the response to their previous documentary, ‘No Matter What,’ was overwhelmingly positive and generated a lot of buzz.
The project not only repaired the strained relationship between the band members, but also inspired them to reunite for a final concert, ending their career on a positive note. They were very pleased with how sensitively Curious Films handled everything, so it was a natural decision to bring the film crew back on board when they committed to the gig.
‘Cameras have already been following them as they put their plans in motion.’
