Boy Meets World alum Danielle Fishel still in pain after undergoing 20 rounds of radiation for breast cancer

Danielle Fishel Karp, famously known for her role in Boy Meets World, may now be considered cancer-free, yet she continues to experience significant discomfort, approximately half a year since her stage zero DCIS (ductal carcinoma in situ) diagnosis.

As per breastcancer.org, Ductal Carcinoma In Situ (DCIS) is limited to the milk ducts (the channels that transport milk to the nipple), and it accounts for about 20% to 25% of freshly diagnosed breast cancers within the United States.

43-year-old ex-child actor had a double operation called lumpectomies back in October, followed by 20 sessions of radiation therapy.

On her iHeartRadio podcast on Sunday, Danielle shared the news that she has completed her active cancer treatment.

I completed 15 full-breast radiation treatments followed by five focused ones, targeting only the tiny spot where my cancer was located instead of the entire breast. This targeted approach should greatly reduce my risk of recurrence, which is excellent news. However, I must admit, I’m really feeling the aftermath.

As a die-hard fan, I can’t help but share this fascinating tidbit: In our Pod Meets World reunion, Rider Strong and Will Friedle learned that my dear friend Fishel revealed her unique experience. It turns out, the years spent working on Boy Meets World had a surprising side effect – a radiation-induced rash on top of her already beautiful self!

It’s extremely uncomfortable, and I can’t scratch it due to the pain that comes with trying, which makes me feel like crying,” the two-time Children’s & Family Emmy Award nominee complained.

* Wearing a bra is painful; not wearing a bra is also painful. Sleeping on my side causes pain, and so does sleeping in general. Being awake is painful as well.

* It’s uncomfortable to wear a bra and it’s equally uncomfortable not to. I feel pain when I sleep on my side or lie down flat. Sleeping in general is painful, too. Even being awake brings discomfort.

Even though Danielle is feeling extremely exhausted right now, she reminds herself that this won’t be permanent as the doctors have assured her she should recover within the next 2 to 3 months.

According to Fishel, the advice from her doctors for quicker recovery is to exercise regularly and stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water.

I have been exercising, I did it yesterday, and I plan to do it again on Friday. My friend mentioned that working out and staying hydrated can help my body repair the damage caused by radiation.

In easy-to-understand terms: Arizona-native’s second spouse, Jensen Karp, along with their children Adler (age 5) and Keaton (age 3), showered her with plenty of affection and encouragement.

For six years, a pair who were once high school classmates at Calabasas High School didn’t start their romantic relationship until the year 2017.

In the year 2016, Danielle ended her marriage with Tim Belusko, whom she met at Cal State Fullerton, following over two years of marital happiness together.

In a change of roles, Fishel, last seen in an acting assignment back in 2019, will be directing the episode ‘Potions Eleven’ for Todd J. Greenwald’s spin-off series Wizards Beyond Waverly Place. This magical adventure continues on Disney Channel this coming Friday.

As a devoted admirer, I’d like to highlight that the visionary behind The Lopez vs. Lopez and the founder of vegan haircare brand Be Free is equally influential, boasting strategic collaborations with prominent brands such as Aflac, Hyundai, and Keebler, where I often see their partnerships showcased.

Danielle started acting at age 10, but it was her character as hippie-turned-lawyer Topanga Matthews in the ABC sitcom (1993-2000) and its Disney Channel spin-off Girl Meets World (2014-2017) that really catapulted her to fame.
