Box office: 'Venom,' 'Best Christmas Pageant Ever,' 'Heretic' top Veterans Day weekend

As a seasoned cinephile with decades of movie-going experiences under my belt, I must say that this weekend’s box office offerings have left me both impressed and intrigued. The success of “Venom: The Last Dance” is no surprise; Tom Hardy’s brooding charm and the action-packed Marvel universe are a potent combination. However, it’s the lesser-known titles that truly pique my interest.

Over the post-election Veterans Day weekend, I found myself immersed in two fresh cinematic gems that managed to secure the top three spots at the box office. Among these was “Venom: The Last Dance,” which added an impressive $16.2 million to its earnings during its third outing.

In simpler terms, the latest Marvel movie from Sony, titled “Venom,” featuring Tom Hardy as the character Eddie Brock and his symbiote ally, has so far grossed approximately $114.8 million in U.S. cinemas, according to figures provided by Comscore.

In the second place during its premiere, Lionsgate’s holiday-themed production “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever,” inspired by the beloved 1972 book about a group of unconventional characters, earned an impressive $11.1 million.

In the psychological thriller “Heretic,” where Hugh Grant plays a captivating yet malevolent character who abducts two youthful missionaries, the movie grossed $11 million, finishing third. This highly-acclaimed film represents Grant’s strongest debut as a leading actor in over twenty years.

Over the course of its second weekend, “The Wild Robot,” an adaption of Peter Brown’s book series by Universal and DreamWorks about a malfunctioning shipment of household robots, earned approximately $6.7 million. This was closely followed by “Smile 2,” produced by Paramount, which brought in around $5 million during the same timeframe.

In its third weekend, the highly praised thriller “Conclave,” featuring actors like Ralph Fiennes and Stanley Tucci, continued to draw crowds, earning $4.1 million. Since its debut, it has accumulated a total of $21.5 million at the box office.
