Box office flop M3GAN 2.0 is available to watch at home just 3 weeks after cinema release

You can now stream “M3GAN 2.0” at home, only three short weeks following its theatrical debut that ended up being less successful than expected.

In January 2023, the initial movie took the world by storm as a surprise success. However, when its sequel hit theaters, it flopped spectacularly at the box office. Instead of matching the original’s earnings during its premiere weekend in North America, it made only one-third of that amount, and yet it cost twice as much to produce.

Currently, you can buy or rent this movie on digital platforms like Amazon in the USA. The price for purchasing it is $24.99, while renting costs $19.99, as of now.

At present, you can’t download M3GAN 2.0 digitally in the UK, but Amazon is taking pre-orders for it, with the release date yet to be announced.

In other parts of the world aside from North America, the movie has earned approximately $14 million so far. It might not be long before it becomes available digitally in more areas due to this modest earnings.

In a conversation on The Town podcast, producer Jason Blum candidly discussed the reasons for M3GAN’s lackluster performance, expressing that they had initially believed M3GAN would perform exceptionally well, much like Superman.

There are numerous possibilities for her character transformation. We might shift her genre, perhaps moving her to a summer setting. A new appearance could be given to her. We could even flip her role from an antagonist to a protagonist.

“And we kind of classically over thought how powerful people’s engagement was really with her.”

Following the triumph of the initial film, Universal and Blumhouse haven’t only produced a follow-up, but they’ve also filmed a spin-off named “SOULM8TE“. In simpler terms, after the first movie did well, they didn’t just make another one, they also created a new film called “SOULM8TE” as a side story.

Described as an erotic thriller about a sex doll, it is planned to release next year.

M3GAN 2.0 is still playing in some cinemas, and can be bought or rented digitally in the US.
