Boston Blue Star Says Sean and Danny’s Relationship Gets Complicated

In the latest developments of “Boston Blue,” Sean (Mika Amonsen) is starting a new storyline that could create difficulties for him and strain his relationship with his dad, Danny (Donnie Wahlberg).

The latest episode of Boston Blue, called Code of Ethics, introduced Sean’s new girlfriend, Penny (played by Xochitl Gomez). They quickly hit it off, but Sean was surprised to discover she had a past criminal conviction. This news makes Danny, Sean’s father, uneasy, and he becomes very overprotective of his son.

Even though Danny seemed to come to terms with things by the episode’s end, Amonsen hinted that his father’s anger isn’t over. He told Us Weekly that the relationship between Sean and Danny will stay rocky for a while. However, he didn’t want to give away any spoilers, saying viewers will have to keep watching to see what happens. “They’re facing difficulties, and viewers will have to tune in to see how things unfold and if Penny comes back.”

Amonsen hinted that Penny will be sticking around for a good while. He also suggested that Danny’s reaction to their connection will create a lot of drama. According to Amonsen, Penny and Sean’s relationship will continue to develop, and while it will be difficult for both of them, Sean will be particularly challenged. He also believes Penny will help Danny mature and learn to balance work and his personal life, as she feels like his first serious girlfriend.

The actor explained that despite Danny’s disapproval of Sean’s new girlfriend, his main priority is his son’s happiness. He’ll eventually come to terms with the fact that Sean is an adult and has the right to make his own choices. “You’ll see Danny struggle with this in different ways,” the actor said, “but ultimately he realizes Sean is a grown man. Even when he disagrees with Sean’s decisions, Danny wants him to be happy, and he understands he can’t control his life. Sean is old enough to make his own decisions.”

Amonsen discussed the evolving relationship between the father and son characters. He explained that while their connection is still developing, they’ll gradually gain a better understanding of each other and begin to repair their bond as the season progresses. Viewers will also see Wahlberg’s character experience personal growth. According to Amonsen, a key moment is when, despite his feelings, the father figure expresses a desire for his son’s happiness, which happens repeatedly throughout the season. Both characters grow, and particularly, Danny will become more complex and well-rounded.

He also praised Wahlberg, saying he was incredibly helpful and a pleasure to work with. Amonsen explained that Wahlberg’s extensive experience with the franchise made him a valuable resource whenever Amonsen had questions. According to Amonsen, Wahlberg was very knowledgeable and easy to talk to, offering a comfortable and natural working relationship. He described Wahlberg as having a fatherly presence and being a fantastic mentor, guiding him through the role and the show itself. Amonsen stated he couldn’t have asked for a better co-star.

Boston Blue airs new episodes every Friday at 10:00 PM ET and 7:00 PM PT on CBS.
