Borderlands 4 Played By Terminally Ill Fan Who Dubbed it an ‘Amazing Experience’

As a gamer who’s seen my fair share of heartwarming and heartbreaking stories in the gaming community, this one truly touched me. Caleb McAlpine, a fellow Borderlands fan fighting an unyielding battle against cancer, had his wish to play Borderlands 4 before it was released granted by the incredible folks at Gearbox Software.

As a passionate gamer, I recently reached out to the talented developers at Gearbox Software, expressing my deep-seated desire to play Borderlands 4 before my time ran out. Incredibly, they graciously granted my wish! The whole experience was nothing short of amazing.

37-year-old Caleb McAlpine, recently shared on Reddit about his advanced stage-4 cancer diagnosis and the possibility that he might have only 7-12 months left if chemotherapy doesn’t halt its progression. Expressing his deep affection for Borderlands series, he inquired if there was someone who could connect with Gearbox Software to explore the possibility of early access to the game before it’s officially released due to his uncertain future.

Someone at Gearbox caught wind of the message, and last week, McAlpine was flown out to the studio on a first class flight, where he got to meet the dev team including CEO Randy Pitchford, and play Borderlands 4. 

McAlpine posted on Reddit, “We had a chance to try what they’ve developed for Borderlands 4 so far, and it was incredible! I’m not sure if I’ll be here when the game launches, but I wanted to express my gratitude to everyone for your love and support. You all played a significant role in making this happen. It was an unforgettable experience, and simply awesome!

Borderlands 4 is set to launch sometime in 2025.
